    It's a Gary Snyder, "beat poet" reference..he taught at UC Davis and wrote drunken Zen poetry in the foothills of the Sierras after work..that's the obvious connection besides UncleCliffy'sDaddy being a guy you'd like to have as a neighbor

    True story, I went to a Charlie Chaplin film festival on the UC Davis campus and there was a concert after the films with some famous rock band...this was maybe 1976..the drummer ended his big solo...threw his drumsticks into the audience and beaned some college girl right in the third eye...the crowd went from cheering to....oh shit silence....fitting for a silent movie fest
