Aren't women raped by their own husbands? You can tell me that is the same as someone hunting you down and dragging you off to be raped repeatedly all you want and I'll never believe it in a thousand years. Rape means sex without consent no? I believe that a man can rape his wife, all it takes is lack of consent. I just can't wrap my mind around there actually being people who can't grasp the concept of severity. Here, choose one....no saying they are the same. No choosing neither, choose one of the following options knowing you have no other choice. A man tells you that you are going to die at his hands no matter what you do, you choose. Choose knowing the outcome is your death. 1. You take some pills at gunpoint and OD and die peacefully. 2. He drags you by your hair to his car. Hooks you to a rope and drags you to an airport. You survive. Then he flies you over the ocean, ties a boulder to you and pushes you out. You're dead either way. I can see picking 2 just as an act of defiance but you still can't tell me that it is the same thing.
People develop PTSD and major trust issues from being raped by someone they knew. This is kind of like saying that house slaves didn't have it so bad. I don't think we have to rank one experience worse than the other.
I was thinking the other day about how many people cheer when someone goes to jail for a crime for them to be raped in prison...like the Subway guy Jared. If we can't even control rape in our prison systems...(correctional facilities they're called), then we release these folks back into society..it's insane. How many cop movies use that line. We all need to re-evaluate how rape is dealt with and how we need to correct our ways of dealing with it. Rape is a horrible thing like torture...conscious or not..it's wrong on every level. I can't believe folks are actually grading rape by relationships. Rape is not a relationship at all...it's a selfish, cowardly flailing for instant gratification...another example of how when we think we're so highly intellectually evolved...we're still emotional barbarians a lot of the time.
I don't think anyone is telling you that at all...but grading rape? It just seems like you're fishing for debate material sort of like a defense attorney would
I know, right?? Umm, well you were raped, but it was mild rape, so it wasn't that bad.. I mean, seriously?
How do judges decide the sentences? You want mandatory minimums, be my guest. I think some of you are absolutely brainwashed. All rape is the same, got it.
Good point. A woman who is fingered while drunk out of her mind at a part is less likely to be as devastated as someone who was sleeping in their home and a serial rapist breaks in and tortures her. The first one can avoid going to frat parties. How are you people oblivious to this?
Each judge makes their own decision based upon sentencing guidelines, which honestly don't have that much to do with how the victim has been affected. But, it doesn't mean that tremendous harm isn't done to others regardless of the sentence or the circumstances of the assault. Sentencing is about punishment. It isn't about making value judgments about whether a rape affected one person worse or another. I actually know many people who have been sexually assaulted. From my own first hand experience I would never try to minimize someone else's experience with rape. If you want to say it isn't that a particular instance of SA isn't bad, it's probably because it is all too common. I just would like to see people take accountability and not say well the rape wasn't that bad because I knew the person and I didn't jump out at them from behind the bushes. Or, it wasn't like I physically attacked them. They were passed out. They didn't actually experience it. That's kind of the slope you are on.
A man who does not trouble to ascertain the facts has no business mansplaining to women how we are supposed to react to different "grades" of rape. Not that it will stop him.
Facts of what? It was a hypothetical. Mansplaining? Is that supposed to be derogatory? I'll have to come up with a term to describe EVERY thing on Earth that you own, know and are allowed to do. You can thank or hate MEN for it no matter what it is we're speaking of. Shit, I got it. The safety that you are generally MANvided with is due to how men in general feel towards women. The fact that you are MANlowed to post on a sports website is just a sign of how progressive men are as a whole. That the MANdicial system even sees fit to send this kid to jail for a minimum amount of time is a testament to mankind.
Oh look, didn't even have to try to find it. Just clicked on yahoo and sure enough here is another IDENTICAL rape that is EXACTLY the same as the Stanford kid. I mean, other than the race of the accused it is almost a carbon copy. https://www.yahoo.com/news/man-rapes-woman-prison-son-164811569.html
You might want to quit while you are MANhind. You're not going to MANcomplish anything here, other than MANscalating the situation.
You're the one parsing rape. If it's all the same then the this punk ass and some unknown are the same too.
I was being sarcastic. I could be raped, no? Men are raped, aren't they? If I'm in a bad mood and turn down Jessica Alba and she rapes me because she is CLEARLY insane, that isn't as bad as being held down by three prison guards while I'm raped by a prisoner? Is it? By the way, one definition of parsing is to analyze. When I hear a chant like "rape is rape" I question the ability of the people chanting to think logically. What do you want, to change criminal law to three or four categories? 1. Superbad shit, 2 almost as bad, 3 pretty bad, 4 not horrible but bad enough to go to jail. You dviss1 are charged with a class 1 felony, SUPERBAD. 1. Death or life in prison. 2. 30 years to life. 3. 10 years 4. 6 months to 10 years. That should cover everything. A debate about how criminals are sentenced would be a good one. People chanting catch phrases that they think are absolute truth aren't addressing anything.
Rape is rape isn't a chant. It isn't a bumper sticker. It's a fact. Bottom line: 6 months is a travesty of justice and clearly shows the privilege it is to be white in this country.
2 plus 2 is a fact. Saying anything is anything can be a fact. Bread is bread. Water is water. Blue is blue. Air is air. All of those things can be "parsed" as you like to put it. Raisin bread sucks, brioche is awesome. Sea water isn't drinkable, tap water is. Dark blue is different than baby blue. Air in China is worse than air in Wyoming. Black and white bullshit statements like that rape is rape bullshit needs to stay on a bumper sticker. Hell, you may love raisin bread and hate brioche. That's your prerogative. I don't know what the kid should have got for a sentence, I wasn't in the court room.
