Some people from the Netherlands were posting links to local newspapers. The whole thing is extremely sketchy. The current belief is that she was a prostitute. Essentially she changed her story a few times. First that it was consensual, then it was that he wouldn't pay her, and ultimately that it was rape. Supposedly she told her family she was going to France, but instead traveled to Qatar with another young woman. And all she got was probation for a year, but they're going to deport her regardless. The dude is getting off way worse.... 100 lashes for sex outside of marriage and another 40 lashes for drinking booze. Pretty rough considering it doesn't sound like it was even rape.
When I was in Bahrain, that was the only white women we saw at the hotel bars. That may not be the case here, but I would not dismiss it.
Why? Everyone knows every "prostitute" is actually a victim of human trafficking therefore it is always rape. Duh
