"The Boston papers have, to my suprise, failed to recognize the value of Paul Pierce getting hurt. All the headlines have said how its all over for the Celtics and how they have no chance now, the C's are burried. Well Guess what, The C's were always burried." According to this article, the Celtics are better off as a team with the Truth getting injured. The author claims that it will finally give some of the younger players a chance to shine and take on leadership roles, which is better for Boston in the long run. I think that is a cheap cop-out from a fan that is just trying to cope with the fact that Pierce is out right now. Great players are great because they help make their teammates better on the court, not because they are sitting on the sidelines watching. Having Paul in the huddle at the end of games, showing young guys like Jefferson how to carry yourself on the court, that is what will help the team. In past years as the Celtics have disappointed, he hasn't had the young talent he has now.
First of all, welcome to the site.To answer your post...I don't think it is a cheap cop-outI think Celtics fans everywhere...die hard or not knows and can accept the fact we aren't going to win ANYTHING this year...even with PiercePierce definitely is a leader on the floor but sometimes I feel like playing him with guys this inexperienced may kind of intimidate themThey don't wanna disappoint Paul so they try to force things instead of playing THEIR gameand I don't think running the Paul Pierce Iso play was going to work everytimeas you could see in that last game he was in where he was quadruple teamed and couldn't even get a shot offI don't think it's good for Paul to be out but it definitely isn't the end of the world...look at what has happened in the absence of Paul and Wally...guys have stepped up like Al Jefferson, Gerald Green and Rajon RondoWe won't win many games but we need the young guys to learn to play THEIR game and not play "Give Paul the ball and watch as he works his magic"It's better for the long run of the teamWhen Pierce comes back he will be 110% and we will be able to work guys like Gerald and Al into the offense...it will help them A LOT when Pierce is back but we need them to play by themselves FOR NOW but obviously we need Paul
I'm not even going to bother reading that article... the Celtics are obviously not better off without Pierce. Look how pathetic they are now.
Thanks for having me...By that rationale then, wouldn't it make sense to trade Pierce for a couple of talented youngsters or draft picks instead of have him play with the young guys the Celtics already have?
NO!it wouldn't make sense for that to happenthe team NEEDS Pierce...the last thing we need is a whole new group of youngsterswe need to stick with our core young players (Gerald, Al, Tony, Rajon and maybe even Delonte) and trade some of the others for another superstarit all depends on what we get in this draft...if we somehow get Oden or Durant...then I don't think we need to trade for a superstar even though I wouldn't mind itall I know is...our championship formula isPaulThe young guy core I namedA top draft pick and/or another superstar

You can't have a winning team without a star player, and Pierce is that guy. Al and Gerald aren't ready to shoulder that kind of load yet. Al is close though. Still, Pierce has got to stay, regardless. You're supposed to build around star players, not kids with worlds of potential.Welcome to BBW, by the way. Nice to have another Celts fan.
I agree with yanks, I'm not even going to read the article. To say that the Celtics are better off without Paul Pierce is just ridiculous. Would it speed up the development of the youngsters? Sure, but at the end of the day, he's our leader, he's a superstar, and he is a go-to guy. To say that the team is better off without one of the best players in the franchise's history is just idiotic.
You guys may as well read the article, because I may not have been clear as to what he's talking about. He says that they are better off in the long run with Pierce out for a few weeks because then the young guys can grow without him. I still think that the best way to learn is through having a leader like PP on the court, but it is an interesting take.
I'm glad the celts young stars are getting a chance to produce and compete more on an nba level. I feel bad for pierce and szczerbiak and ratliff, but the bigs get more minutes, Tony Allen broke out with excellent play but got injured, but now u know what he can produce day in and day out. Let's see what these guys have to offer instead of just Saying they got potential. Now is their time to show they can shine while there is casualties. Idiot Tony Allen, all that skill down and out.Edit: I didnt read anyone elses post above me because I just wanted a quick comment just to note if a mirror any thoughts.

Would you have said "OMG Ray, you idiot! You could have gotten injured!!!" No, you wouldn't have. Just because TA happened to get hurt, people call him an idiot. The fact of the matter is that it happens ALL THE TIME (people taking it in and having fun, or shooting, after a whistle).

Well in my case it is a small matter but I do care about the players and their injuries.

yes, we are better off long term, because guys like al and gerald can find their roles. I'm fine with a few losses now (that could've been losses anyways, btw) in order to get ready for the future.
