If Calabro is so good, where has he been working?

    Serious question...

I listen to them quite a bit as well. And he always complements the beautiful NW. But he also loves the weather in SoCal and his home. He is not moving again unless he gets fired. He has been there too long....and he does love the Lakers more than anything. (Besides his family) The added fact that he can go watch Trayce play every home game is huge. Of course Trayce could get traded. It's too late....Mychal has turned to the dark side....forever.

This is where some of you are fooling yourselves.

Yes, family to us. But its a business.

Shit we have 7 people in my office. The Owner made it a point to hire or re-staff the office with people all in the same age range, so we can grow together, relate to each other better, and retire together. But we had to fire a guy in February. We are like a family and it stung, but the BIG picture is its a business.

Some of us are still taking this too personal because we are blinded by family blood, but in reality there is no family blood.

It's also easy to see that when you have a chance to land one of the best (arguably THE best), play-by-play guy in the game, you go for it.

He's currently working the NBA finals for ESPN radio with Hubie Brown. He's done PBP for national radio throughout the playoffs.

    Big enough for you?

I see that now. They don't give a shit about us. A large part of my connection with this team died this week.

    http://forwardcenter.net/calabro-joins-trail-blazers-as-new-television-play-by-play-announcer/

"Though it’s a chapter that Calabro thought might never be written. Ever since deciding he’d give up his job as the SuperSonics’ play-by-play announcer rather than move with the franchise to Oklahoma City in 2008, the 59-year old Indiana native has wanted another crack at working directly for an NBA team. Armed with a rich baritone and decades of experience working in both television and radio, Calabro has never had much trouble finding work, but those gigs, whether it calling games for the Seattle Sounders, the PAC 12 Network or as the lead NBA play-by-play man for ESPN Radio, never quelled his desire to get back into rigors of calling an 82-game schedule.

“Since the Sonics left in ’08 I’ve always entertained the thought of being with a club, had a couple of opportunities, but the time was never right with the family because my kids were in school at the time,” said Calabro. “I just did not want to live apart from my family after putting in 21 years in the league, just didn’t feel like moving away was something that I wanted to do. Over the last couple of years I actually entertained the thought of, if there ever was an opportunity available anywhere in the league I definitely would be interested. Unfortunately, there just weren’t any opportunities.”

But then the Portland Trail Blazers came calling. The team had decided they were going to make numerous and significant changes to their broadcast prior to the Trail Blazers advancing to the second round of the 2016 Western Conference playoffs for a series versus the Warriors, which Calabro, along with analyst and Hall of Famer Hubie Brown, just happened to be calling for ESPN Radio. So Trail Blazers team president Chris McGowan took the opportunity afforded by Portland’s unexpected playoff run to make a run of his own at one of the NBA’s premier broadcasters......."

Sure, but don't delude yourself in thinking that was the primary reason. This was a purely Seattle based decision.

    Pretty much everywhere:

"Calabro has done ESPN radio play-by-play for the NBA Conference Finals for a decade in addition to being a regular contributor to TNT's NBA broadcasts. Calabro recently worked college basketball and football games for the Pac-12 Networkand postseason college basketball for Westwood One Sports, including NCAA tournament action.

Most recently, Calabro was honored with the 2016 Keith Jackson Western Sports Star of the Year award.

Calabro has done work on the national level with TNT, TBS, ESPN Radio, and NBA TV. He has also lent his voice to several Microsoft games, including NBA Inside Drive, NBA Full Court Press, and NFL Fever and more recently has been the play-by-play voice of the Sony PlayStation NBA game franchise."

God I hope he doesn't bring Hubie with him. Hubie is flat out unbearable. And wrong, most of the time. I think Hubie watches games by Braile.

From my experience, firing a person/s based on their age is grounds for one hell of an age discrimination lawsuit, not to mention potential multiple violations of the protected classes of employees... geesh! You may want to reconsider putting this down in a public forum...

I think you mis-read. He said that the hiring process involved bringing in people of similar ages. The firing had nothing to do with age; he was just relating that the family atmosphere created doesn't preclude them from firing someone if it's what's best for the business.

No harm in opening up the TV market, I'm just skeptical that it'll have much impact, if that was the intention of this move.

Upgrading the play by play guy just doesn't seem like an essential move to me when it involves firing a very good play by play guy with a deep connection to the team. MB's firing seems like change for change's sake.

I'm not "anti Seattle guy" but the Seahawks and Mariners are not comparable to the blazers as a regional team, because the blazers had the Sonics as a rival for nearly 40 years.

    Anyway, Calabro will be great.
