That man was a beast. He hurt his knee in college and sat out a few games, people called him a wuss. He wasn't, he just didn't want to damage his career by further hurting his knee. Then in one of his last college football games, he broke his rib and kept playing, then he broke his other rib and still kept playing. He played pro baseball and football and was good at it, he was a monster.

If Babe Ruth is an athlete, I'm Michael Jordan. I wouldn't call maurice richard a great athlete, hell yeah was he a great skater, but athelete, idk. Not enough to 'rocket' him up into my top 5..

Alright, for this thread, I meant players. We could go athletes though, and I'll throw in Amare and the young stars of today's NBA.

Is this based on pure athletic ability, or skill also?

Athletes:1. Bo Jackson. I dont know how anybody could POSSIBLY argue this one. I guess a lot of you werent around in his day. Bo played 2 sports at an EXTREMELY high level and was regarded as a top player in both sports.2. Jordan. Nuff said.3. Jim Thorpe.4. Carl Lewis5. Barry Sanders.Skills:1. Tiger. Even Jordan didnt dominate basketball as much as Tiger dominates golf.2. Jordan3. Roger Federer. Has literally dominated the tennis world for the past 3 or so years. Compared to Tiger as far as domination of his sport. May end up passing Jordan on my list. He is still young.4. Gretzky. The greatest. For now. 5. Barry Sanders. The most skilled running back ever. May be passed by LT. Not yet though.Toughest:1. Favre. 2. Gordie Howe. The man played at a professional level in 5 different decades.3. Ali4. Jack Lambert. 5. Cal Ripken Jr. Yeah, I know. He played baseball. But to play in 2,000+ consecutive games in ANY sport on ANY level is ridiculous.6. Tyson.

Look at rugby players, a rougher version of football with virtually no pads.
