Can I ask why? This isn't to be combative, but I am really wondering what he would bring that you would want?
Hearing, "ball don't lie" after EVERY opponent's missed FT would get old REAL fast. In some cases, the ball tells the truth - the truth that guys like DeAndre Jordan are just plain shitty FT shooters. BNM
Dude knows the game really well. Well spoken and insightful every time I've listen to him broadcast. Big Plus, Ex Blazer and overall likeable guy.
If we sign Mychel Thompson for summer league, we'll know Mychal Thompson is coming home to call games with Calabro
Every time I have seen him on NBA TV or as a color commentator for a game. I have found him to be very informative, well spoken, and non irritating. Being low on the irritation scale is extremely important to me. If I am going to listen to someone for 82 games.....that person can't bug the shit out of me. I doubt I would ever mute Smitty. He might not be a home run....bu I can see why OB and others would want him. Again we have Calabro for the excitement portion. Would he be too boring? That is possible too. Brent Barry would fall into the same category as Steve Smith. Quality color guys, but maybe not enough "homerism" for our taste.
Actually, with Calabro's high energy play-by-play, I'd be fine with a more laid back, but knowledgeable color commentator like Smitty, Brent Barry or Greg Anthony. All three know the game, are insightful and articulate. All three have ties to Oregon, but two of the three have also been tainted by Seattle. BNM
Seriously? There are some recognizable names on that list! Steve Smith Dale Davis Rick Fox Stacey Augmon Billy Owens Larry Johnson Luc Longley Dikembe Mutombo Steve Smith Kenny Anderson Greg Anthony
Pretty accurate, but Bobby Phills should have been listed above Steve Smith. I don't sense any personality in current national (ESPN and TNT) colormen, all with straight shooter personalities. If one comes here, he'll need a personality implant. Keep Portland weird. Calabro is full of funny small talk and brought it out in Marques Johnson and Mychal Thompson in his Sonic years. I expect Calabro will Portlandize whichever bore like Steve Smith or Brent Barry whom we hire.
He said "Ball don't lie" once, not after every play. Your modus operandi is to create a straw man, stomp all over the scarecrow with stats, then declare victory.
Yeah, pretty sure he said it a LOT more than once. Yep, here's a few of them, and like I said, sometimes a guy is just a shitty FT shooter (Kwame and Bogut both missed a pair and got multiple "ball don't lies"). BNM
"search for the color commentator" Why does he or she have to be black? May get me in trouble, but I had to say it
