I don't think he compares to Meyers in position and role personally but I would be very happy that if we have to lose a player that it is Meyers instead of Harkless so I am on board with you in that sense!

If he was from Europe he might have been a 1st round pick. Most of these 60 guys are projects, even the #1 over all pick has a major flaw in his game. Layman will never be a starter, but I will say he does has an effortless stroke from 3 pt range, and he is athletic. So I think he has a shot at sticking.

    Not.

    Swayed.

He'll be out of the league within three years.

I'm putting this here so if I'm wrong all you divas can bump it and tell me I was wrong.

Yeah that's what was said about Luke Babbitt and he is still pulling down an NBA paycheck.

I think the most important thing we can know about Layman right now is based on the fact that we didn't have a pick in this draft. That means that Neil didn't settle for Layman; he targeted him. This wasn't a "highest-rated player left" situation. Neil made a point to get him. Gave up an asset and cash to acquire him. Paul Allen isn't going to toss 1.2 million dollars out to get a player they don't expect anything out of.

If he really wants a career in Portland he's going to have to change his name to Layperson.

I took a quick look at the draft classes for the last 10 years... There are always 3-5 guys who made an impact from the second round, and often one or two starters (Milsap, Marc Gasol, Lance Stehpenson, etc) a year. I think we got a guy who can fit in a rotation, possibly replacing Crabbe if he gets a toxic offer.

He is a stretch 4. Meyers played a stretch 4/5 last year. He is a great match with a Whiteside or Dwight. His ball handling that we see in these videos was almost nonexistent at Maryland so I do not put much stock in that.

We have a recent history of toxic Crabbe.

He ought to have the McMillan/Batum role -- park in the corner and don't you dare move.

    He's a good shooter.

    Official Blazer Press Release

Portland sends future second round pick and cash considerations to Orlando

PORTLAND, Ore. (June 23, 2016) The Portland Trail Blazers have acquired the draft rights to forward Jake Layman from the Orlando Magic in exchange for a future second round pick and cash considerations, it was announced today by president of basketball operations Neil Olshey.

“Jake is a high character young man with a skill set we value on both ends of the floor,” said Olshey. “His ability to defend multiple positions and shoot the ball from range will be positive additions to our roster.”

Orlando selected Layman with the 47th overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft. A four-year player out of the University of Maryland, Layman (6-9, 220) posted career averages of 10.2 points (44.5% FG, 36.2% 3PT, 75.9% FT), 4.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists for the Terrapins.

An Honorable Mention All-Big Ten selection his senior year, Layman led Maryland to 114 wins over his four seasons and is one of just 12 players in school history to record 1,400 points (1,436) and 600 rebounds (674). Layman, 22, guided Maryland to its first Sweet Sixteen appearance since 2003 last season, and ranks 18th in school history in points (1,436) and 18th in rebounds (674).
