Yeah, Aminu can put the ball on the floor alright, but keeping it is another matter.

I'll take that. Parsons was a huge steal taken 9 spots higher than Layman and Green as a top 5 pick that was traded for Ray Allen. Claver, in spite of not being able to shoot worth a shit, was still a passable, intelligent role player when needed. If his low side is Claver with a jump shot, he was well worth the 47th pick.

Layman struggles putting the ball on the floor as well. He only goes right and if you take that away, he is severely limited and he doesn't pass well off the dribble either.

    Going BGD, much?

Jake the Snake was draft 6 spots higher than they predicted he would go. They don't have a "should" mock draft or a "if teams were smart" mock draft. They were as wrong as they've ever been in predicting the draft this year. No shame, everyone was.

Claver: intelligent player, can't shoot, below average athleticism.
Jake the Snake: intelligence remains to be seen, elite shooter, 6'9" dude with almost a 40" vertical.

They're the same because neither are overly aggressive? If anything Claver is a poor man's Jake the Snake.

OK, maybe the Batum comparison has some merit.

Possibly no better example than that of Maker. Drafted 10th and DraftExpress had him at 35th the day before yesterday and even until 5 minutes before the draft when they were tipped off by someone from MIL. If the person didn't blab that it was a huge possibility then they would have gotten that majorly wrong. Of course everyone and their mom thought he was a huge reach at 10 (even at 20 possibly) so not much fault there.

Agree. If Claver could have just improved his shot or gained the confidence needed, he would have been a huge asset

Shot 40% from 3 this year.

Yes, a "role player" on a college team is better than a franchise player in Spain/Russia. I see.

Good to see VC improve his shooting. He's a great guy. Wish he'd done that while he was here.
    OK, average athleticism.
My snarky comeback to your final snarky retort: NBA player > washed up NBA player.

I have no idea whether this kid will become a solid NBA player or not, but I can see why the Blazers thought he was worth a shot at the cost of a future 2nd round pick and some cash. Most likely, all we'll see of him this year is spot minutes in garbage time, like Cannaughton got last season. It probably won't be until 2 to 3 years down the road that we know whether he's going to pan out, but that's pretty typical for a 2nd rounder.

How old is that video? Claver looks like he hasn't even started shaving, yet.

Also, does everyone in Europe wear orange? That video made my retinas bleed. Even the chick in the stands in the bikini top was wearing orange.

    APG: 1.0
    SPG: 0.5
    BPG: 0.1

    Jake Layman
    Height: 6'9"
    Weight: 210
College: Maryland (strength of schedule 8.31)
    Years: 2013 thru 2016
    MPG: 27.9
    PPG: 10.2
    2FG%: 0.530
    3FG%: 0.362
    FT%: 0.759
    RPG: 4.8
    APG: 1.1
    SPG: 0.9
    BPG: 0.8

Not that it's incredibly flattering, but I see Layman's ceiling as Steve Novak. Novak was clearly a better 3 pt shooter, but overall games show quite a bit of similarity. Novak played for 10 NBA seasons, averaging 4.7 ppg.

Video was uploaded 7 years ago and the content of course could be even older than that. And why is she wearing only a sports bra inside? I could see if she was out playing volleyball or something.

Granted it's old. It's from before he came over (i.e., comparable to our new draftee's age). Orange is Valencia's team color.

True dat (by definition). I have my doubts that Layman is or ever will be an NBA player, but we shall see.

I have absolutely no doubt that with our training staff, he'll be a very good NBA player....

Of course, it's the offseason and I really go into super-optimistic/full homer mode this time of the year.

My favorite NBA player comparison: a Luke Babbitt who can jump and play defense.

If LB could play defense, he might have become a star.
