How many points did they give up a game, I'm having trouble finding that. The Suns don't need a dominant defense when their offense is so good, LA's hero himself, Magic Johnson said on TNT about the Suns that right now in the league the best defense is a good offense. The Suns do have a good defense though, enough to win it all in my opinion. Amare has become a nice defensive presence inside and we have a lot of players who can play good defense right now. I'm so glad to get James Jones in the rotation finally just for that, he's a pretty good player.

Yeah, the Mavs may not score as well as the Suns but, they can play good D coupled with a good offense. That equals chip right there. I mean a pee wee team can put up 135 on the Suns, that aint going to work against the veteran playoff teams than can slow down Phoenix's offense.

They shoot quickly and the other team gets the ball much more than in a game against another team. They aren't an elite defense but they have a good one. And with the foolish teams challenging them to run then that brings up even higher scoring games to start out the season. I think they will prove themselves in the playoffs.

Without Amare, Thomas and Bell, those are 3 of your 4 best defender, your 2 only decent inside options (Amare being a 20-25PPG scorer, HUGE chunk), 2 of your 3 best rebounders, your best spot up shooter, etc... Without Amare especially they got absolutely no easy shots so the Mavs were able to guard the jumpshooter pretty easily. I am positive if the Suns were healthy last year they would have won it all.

Coop wasn't the only defender on the team though, they employed a very effective trap that was the reason for all their fast breaks. They also averaged 30 assists per game and shot 54% for the season. The Suns are just too one dimensional. They need to be able to grind out an 85-80 win, or be able to hold an opponent to 30% shooting on a given night. Sure the offense looks great in January but come April, their legs better be fresh enough to also play a little D.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Actually, the Lakers gave up over 100 points a game every year that Magic Johnson played for them... they only gave up less than 105 points per game three times during his career in LA (1989-90, 1990-91, and 1991-92).</div>So, every team gave up 100 ppg in the 80's.

You all remember the 2 OT 300+ point win over the Nets but who cares about the 99-93 win over the Nets when New Jersey shot 43% and the Suns had 9 steals and 11 blocks? Or the 92-83 win over the Hornets who shot 40% or holding the Magic to 89? Or having a bad game against the Bulls and then coming back to win it in the second half with a solid defensive effort? Cleveland to 90 points on 39% shooting...and most of the scores of other teams are in the high 90's or low 100's in blowouts.

If they win a title with their offensive/defensive ratio, then they will be one of the best. The Lakers were awesome though, and they were undisputed highlights of their era. The Mavs are still in the race of being the league's best. So, no.

Yeah, in 1991 the Nuggets gave up 130.8 ppg. And in 1982 they averaged 126.5ppg and allowed 126.0ppg. Talk about close games.

I wish I could've seen that Suns-Nuggets game that broke the record for points.

The Nuggets-Pistons game was 186-184. It wasn't televised though. [IMG]

Re: '06-07 Suns: Greatest team since the '80s?

Guys the Showtime Lakers, MJ's Bulls, Bird and the Celts..all were teams that were speculated of their greatness just like our Suns. The same was said about the Spurs, and even the Heat if you reall think about it. The thing is, however, no team ever had an undoubtful superstar of the NBA, no one had an unbeatable team, and no one had the best coach in the league. The Suns are just another team that could, win 3 titles, and live up to ther hype, they could be a team that gets beat in the WCF's, and lastly they could be like the Heat, and win only one championship, until then, we watch.

They could've won three titles, but they haven't. As it stands now, they haven't been the best team in their own conference, much less the NBA, to be an all-time great team.Hell the Mavs are having their best season ever, and possibly one of the better seasons of any team in recent memory, but you don't see long drawn out stories about that.

Then you guys also lost last year, you are in no better position than us right now. 2nd Round and a Finals loss with a healthier team isn't any better than 2 WCF when both years we were missing great players. The Mavs haven't proven anything either so don't pretend you guys are so much better just because you play some defense. The Mavs still can't stop Nash, Amare and one of Diaw and Marion.

Last year the Suns had no inside presence and no X-Factor that Amare gives, thus making you guys extremely one dimensional offensively (as evident in lakers series). It also killed your rebounding and inside defense (again, look at Lakers series).
