Guys like plumlee are becoming more valuable because of draymond. If plums had a three point shot he'd get max money.
If we get a defensive-oriented C like Whiteside/Biyombo/Ezeli/Mahinmi (in ascending order of likelihood) then we still need Plumlee. He's our point center! He was our third best player in the playoffs most games, and we'd never get value in return. Remember, we gave up this guy for him:

A generation of Blazer fans have seen nothing but Aldridge. I hate seeing big guys shoot from outside 5 feet.
Look at plums numbers last year. Look at biyombos and aldrich. You guys are fooling yourselfs if you dont think plums gets offered at least 15 million a year.
Trade Plumlee! He can pass and dribble for a big, but he cannot finish down low and his shot is broken. Ed Davis is the best big we have off the bench because he provides energy, hustle, and extra possessions that lift the team. Meyers would give us versatility at that center spot because he provides a completely different dynamic than a Whiteside or Howard with his ability to shoot the ball. Also offensively, Meyers has the most upside out of any of our current bigs. If he develops one consistent post move to take advantage of his size against smaller defenders he can become a force offensively. Vonleh provides the ability to switch onto opposing guards, something the rest of our bigs cannot do. Because his shooting form is pretty solid, I am led to believe that as the game starts slowing down for him (he's hesitant right now) he will start knocking down that mid range jumper. Aminu and Layman both have the ability to play as a stretch 4 to provide additional spacing. Harkless can play as an athletic slashing, cutting 4 that increases our tempo and likely finishes better at the rim than Plumlee. There is zero reason for us to consider paying Plumlee 15+ mill next year. He needs to be traded!
I am not saying he is untouchable, I am just saying if you trade him, know what you are getting in return. Trading for a draft pick before the season starts is too risky. Indiana was an example used. Many are now projecting the Pacers to be the 2nd best team in the east. That low of a draft pick is better than nothing, but barely.
If we trade it be either Davis or plum and of course the bottom 5 guys and Cleveland draft pick. I think Neil like Aminu and CJ because there all round play and yes CJ need to improve on defense and I believe he will do that.
We have all seen Plumlee finish at the rim. So we know he can. Yes he gets a lot of his shots blocked, but I think the odds of him learning not to go up soft is just as good as Meyers learning post moves. Plums shot is hardly broken. It can improve. If it doesn't then he won't get 15 mil a season. If he still demands that much, then I am sure we can get a 2nd round pick at the deadline. Not much difference between a late 1st and a 2nd. Again if you get value for him, fine trade him. But i would not trade him just to trade him.
Your right you just don't trade someone to say you have done something in the off season. I would suprise if anybody got traded. I think he going to see what he going to get through FA and than if he has to make trade to balance his team then he will try to trade.
What is very strange about people's perception of Plumlee is that some people have completely forgotten his phenomenal series against Clippers and instead focus on his shortcoming against Warriors. He improved a lot over the course of last season and I definitely do not want us to lose him because he could develop into a serious gem of a player. He isn't there yet but there have been glimpses of serious talent there and even if we get a top tier center in FA there will be enough minutes at PF/C for Plumlee, Davis and another player. It's not like we have enough options now and cannot accomodate another player, and both Plumlee and Davis could play at 4. Obviously it'd be best if we got someone like Horford who will be comfortable at both C and PF but even if we get a C only player there will be place for Plumlee. Unless we get a truly big offer for him, like a high lottery pick or a player like Okafor on a longer deal, I'd keep him.
Assuming we sign HW or Howard... 1) We could keep him. HW gets in foul trouble and it would make sense to shorten Howard's minutes because of age/health. 2) We could trade him. When you're a top tier team, that's when it makes sense to make balancing trades. Interesting that some here think he's only worth a late 1st rounder, while others think he'll earn $15 Mil/year. Personally, I think the starting center on a team that made it to the second round in the west has value.
We still need a power forward, so I'm moving a couple pieces to try to get that starting power forward. Whether that's Plums or Davis or Leonard, someone is gonna need to go.
I don't think we forgot him. Personally, I remember him having a very good series but in fairness, part of that was because their game plan was to double Dame and CJ at every turn and completely ignore Plumlee. He did very well given his opportunity but he didn't have a defender on him for most of that series.
In many, many games last season, Plumlee was our best player statistically. I was shocked at how effective he was, and how he was taken for granted. Lillard would stink it up for 3 1/2 quarters and lazily counteract Plumlee's hard work every play, then make a long shot in the midst of several misses. Sportswriters would write that Lillard won the game. Plumlee was our best player last season. Standing next to Robin Lopez, he was a couple of inches shorter. I thought, if this guy played PF, he'd stop having the height disadvantage. He'd shoot over his man, since the dumber Blazer fans want a shooting PF. He's already a star, but then you Hollywood Lillard worshipers would recognize that Plumlee's a stahhh.
I assume you mean you hope he is not our main PF, but don't you think he is effective as one of our PF's? There is a wide range of PF's out there that need to be guarded. Aminu is a bit of a tweener.
