I doubt these guys put much thought into this list. Although I understand why Gasol would go to San Antonio, I'm not sure why the Spurs would want to have another big man. That'd be 3 players around 7 feet tall, and David West. What they need is a better PG and SG. What really bothered me is that Marvin Williams is in his 10th year, and he still is a role player.
Ian Mahinmi would be only slightly less exciting than Cole Aldrich. If we have to dumpster dive to that level I hope we do look at trades for guys like Monroe instead.
My ideal offseason: Sign Whiteside to max, sign and trade Crabbe and draft pick for Noel, sign Sergio, and bring back our remaining free agents... No team will bring the ball into the post with Whiteside and Noel patrolling the paint.
If Olshey can make somewhat kind of miracles happen, this would be one hell of a lineup next year PG: Dame/Rodriguez/CJ SG: CJ/Crabbe/Connaughton/Montero SF: Aminu/Harkless/Layman PF: M.Williams/Davis/Vonleh/Alexander C: Whiteside (or Howard)/Plumlee/Davis
All I know is, we need someone bigger than Plumlee, so Plumlee can start at (PF not) PG. Anyone. Doesn't matter the talent level. Okay, you held a gun to my head, it's Ezeli.
What the hell are you doing up at this hour? We great artists live by the night to escape the critics. Corrected.
If you are taking Whiteside then better take Okafor from Philly. If you're having Horford then Noel makes more sense. I really doubt 76ers will give us either unless we get really creative with our trading.
I still don't understand the Whiteside love. He's shown flashes, but he's been injured and been inconsistent. Is this a guy we want to use our max on?
Dreaming a bit more (too much i guess). To give 22M to Whiteside and 26M to Horford we would have to shed about 7M in salary and renounce all of our RFA except Allan Crabbe. By trading Ed Davis it would be possible if my maths are correct. Do you think that trying to sell this idea to both Whiteside and Horford could help them both agree to come in Portland? Dame-CJ-Aminu-Horford-Whiteside / XXX - Crabbe - XXX - Vonleh - Plumlee.
That lineup would be insanely competitive and would also get you veterans coming to play with that group at a vet minimum or the mid-level exception. Of course there would be some spots to be filled but that is a case of quality over quantity.
Totally understand where you are coming from...but THAT would definitely be a 'Needle Moving' summer.
I also think adding Whiteside and Williams would be great; but we don't have enough cap space to sign them both. Would require releasing Montero and Alexander and trading Davis and Connaughton at a minimum, and probably that would not do it either..
I think the news is a little grimmer than that; using this http://codepen.io/wayneculverhall/full/mErvbV/, you will find you must also get rid of Vonleh. So in essence stripping down to Lillard, CJ, Aminu, Crabbe, Plumlee. Really drastic, and I would do it. Would those two guys sign if they knew we had to strip down that much? Maybe if Olshey showed them a reasonable plan as to how he would fill the roster?
