NBA needs an age minimum? Do you agree?

Could you imagine how many more kids would want to finish all 4 years of college if they were being compensated?

They would be able to actually afford simple things like transportation, clothes, food, etc.

If their parents are struggling, they would be able to help them out, and not feel so obligated to enter the draft early.

And I would much rather put a percentage of the billion dollar industry, back into the hands/community of people that actually need it, instead of a bunch of rich people that somehow don't have to pay taxes.

Yes. I think if you're good enough at bouncing a ball better than anyone else on your level can bounce a ball you should have the opportunity to bounce the ball with the best ball bouncers.

I think the minimum age should be 55 so I can sign a $20 million per year contract on July 1.

It will be interesting too see what happens when the MLS is forced to accept the FIFA "pay down" system. Where pro clubs pay a percentage of all pro contracts to Private Academies. It will enable non-college soccer to be free and turn it into a bigger business. It's still a while away but it will have a profound effect on the amount of kids who participate. One of the things keeping the sport from being big is the expenses. Families are paying 5k a year to participate in travel teams and that's a joke. At some point it will be free, the coaching will be first rate and foreign clubs will be scouting across the country.

Should be 20 with at least a year of college. I don't care if your another Chris Dudley or a LeBron James caliber type.

Minimum of 2 years of college & maybe give a rookie contract signing bonus if you stay 3 or 4 years would be my preference.

Ncaa players dont get "compensated" their worth, but they do get paid every month money to live and live like rock stars in college towns. Various restaurants give them a free meal every week. And they can live on campus with all meals paid for, while still getting stipend money to spend on personal shit
All the while getting tutors to help them on tests, tuition paid for, and hot college women throwing themselves at them

Its a tough life i tell ya.

You may want to brush up on the lifestyles of rock stars. I'm pretty sure most of them don't live on campus.

Anyone getting a scholarship should be grateful and not ask for pay. But if they must be compensated, it should be in the form of editing their transcripts with all A's, so that they can spend all day in the dorm with the girls instead of going to class.

Edit: Woops, there's a Page 3. The last couple of posts already said this.

I'd vote for a 22 year age min. One year past turning 21, for obvious reasons.
I'd also vote for a mandatory financial management class to be taken (and passed), after declaring for the draft.

They do not get paid.... The college basically gives them the bare minimum to survive and still be eligible to play.... Here's a couple meals a day, and a dorm room...

And if a restaurant gives them a free meal, that's illegal... They aren't allowed to be given money, gifts, etc..

If you think that's living like a rockstar... You wanna come work on my farm? I'll give you a room, and a few meals a day...

Maybe if you're playing disc golf, or swimming.

How about they pay them what they're worth, and they can take tuition out of their pay... I have a strange feeling they will have some money left over...

Let's just say that the college only gives them education, food, etc. Would you rather have the NCAA keep all of its untaxed money, than give some of it to the players?

What is this? The Soviet Union?

Any company that makes billions of dollars off of 18 year old kids, in untaxed revenue, should be grateful, and compensate the kids that are making them money.

Agreed. They should at least give them free education, room and board.

Since the Soviet Union wasn't capitalistic, and what you're describing is, I'm not sure that asking if this was the Soviet Union applies here.
