Things are going so well for the Suns I suppose I need somethng to feel bad about but I've been keeping an eye on Rodriquez and, jeez, doesn't he seem like the perfect understudy for Nash. Surely the paltry $$$ the team got for his rights made no real difference to the organization, but I'd rather see him coming in than Banks, who seems to just be the wrong guy for PHX.And I'm trying to get a read on the upcoming draft - there's one high pick for sure and another that may be held over to another year? I think they'll have to take someone this year, given the depth of talent and the need for young legs.Thoughts?
Hopefully Atlanta wins some more games so we end up with their pick. I think they will use that to get a good big man since Thomas will probably be gone. The other picks I really don't mind trading because this team is so close to the luxury tax that the money is needed. At first I was in favor of the Banks trade but I didn't know he'd struggle so much...but it turned out that Barbosa is better at playing PG than I thought.
Sometimes things just don't work out - banks looked like a good fit but it's time to move him if they can - someone like gerald wallace would be nice. He's athletic, runs well and finsihes on the break, works real hard, can rebound, decent passing skills, tough defender. There are sites that already have mock drafts up - one has the Suns taking Hasheem Thabeet from U ConnSo if Atlanta finishes with a pick out of the top 7 it goes to Phoenix, and they have one coming from Boston in the 2st round as well?
This is from NBADraft.net - it makes my head swim to read it. I've cut out everything but the PHX items: 2007 Outstanding TradesIf you find any inaccuracies or unlisted outstanding trades, please contact NBADraft.net (be specific, and provide a link if possible) and we'll correct them. For more info on traded picks please visit:NBA.com Transaction PageESPN - NBA TransactionsUpdated: 12.20.06 Phoenix receives a first-round pick from Boston. (Rajon Rondo trade 062806) via Boston receives a 2007 Cleveland (top 10 protected) first-round pick. (Jiri Welsh trade 022405) Phoenix receive a first round pick from Atlanta (Joe Johnson trade 081905) The Suns will receive Atlanta's own first round pick no later than the 2008 NBA Draft. Protected through No. 3 in 2007 and has no protection in 2008. Utah receives a future New York first-round pick (lottery protected through 2010) (Tom Gugliotta trade 021904) via Phoenix (Marbury trade) Phoenix receives a 2005 New York Knicks first-round pick (lottery protected) (010504 Marbury trade)Second Rounders Boston receives a Phoenix 2007 second-round pick. (Walter McCarty trade 020805) via Phoenix receives a 2007 conditional Golden State Warriors second-round pick (Carbakapa trade 010305) Phoenix receives a conditional 2007 Charlotte second-round pick (Jake Voskuhl trade 080205) Phoenix receives a 2008 Cleveland second-round pick (Milt Palacio trade 091702) Phoenix receives a 2009 unconditional Golden State Warriors second-round pick (Zarko Carbakapa trade 010305) So - PHX gets a first round pick from the Celtics and possibly from Atlanta, if they don't hold it over. They also get a Charlotte pick in the 2nd round, with unspecified conditions (at least unspecified here - I'm pretty sure the two teams were specific as hell about the terms)They also get their own picks based on regular season record so that's two more and if this draft turns out to be as deep as the experts claim, there should be some good pickings It would be interesting to take the best players - top six or seven from each team - and see what their draft positions were. It's amazing how much work goes into the scouting and selection and then it's some guy like Arenas who becomes a star and a dozen guys ahead of him disappear into obscurity. Kobe, Jordan - Nash. Except for a few monsters like Kareem or Shaq no-one really knows, do they?
We don't have celtics pick genius. It's the cavaliers pick. We have the Cavs, our own, and potentially atlanta.
