You think that paying employees what their worth, from the billions of dollars of untaxed money, is going to blow up the system?

My god, what would happen to America if all business's had to pay employees, and taxes!!!

Sports scholarships are about the best deal an athlete can get coming out of high school....I don't think CJ and Dame have student loans to pay off..yeah..you might have some books to buy or some fees here or there but athletes basically get a free ride in college..my son got a scholarship..had to buy books, pay some rent and maybe a fee for an extra course.basically free..I didn't benefit from that in college..big difference..those same kids can opt to stay out of school and try out for the D league where they'll be paid like a school teacher, but paid

I don't know what made me think of this, but out of curiosity, who thinks Jameis Winston was actually stealing those crab legs?

The Universities would need to foot the bill for the players, like they do now. There would be 20-30 schools that would be able to pay their athletes, the rest would have to disband sports.

So now so you could pay the less than 1% of athletes that go pro, thousands would lose their scholarship, and never go to college.

And really, if you can play, go over seas, make your money and get drafted the next year. You act like these athletes are forced to go to school, no one is holding a gun to their head. As I said before, it is almost like they realize the exposure they get from the NCAA is worth it...

Seriously, this baffles my mind. The pay for play issue only protects the guys who are going to go off at make millions as pros anyways, while completely ignoring the vast majority of athletes that benefit from an athletic scholarship, and how it will destroy thousands of people's chances to go to college.

Gotta love America, Where we argue how to save the millionaires from the billionaires and ignore the middle class.

Its not free, because they are providing a service to get the scholarship. Which, in some cases may outweigh the service provided by the student (golf, swimming, etc.) but in other cases, it is the exact opposite.

Meanwhile, you have the biggest scam in America, making billions in untaxed revenue.

The college can, and should give scholarships. If they want to entice players to come to their school by offering money, then so be it.

But the ncaa needs to be paying someone, something. I would rather it be the students, than taxes. But something needs to change.

Back to my main point. Fuck the ncaa.

Nope, billions in untaxed revenue would foot the bill. More like a paycheck that they deserve.... But whatever.

I'm talking about saving the students from billionaires. And since most of the students don't go pro, I would say I'm looking out for the middle class, and the families of those who grew up in poverty.

They are getting showcased for professional jobs that pay millions..and getting a degree if they stay 4 years...college sports is also higher level education in sports. They are in school and they are students, not employees. Colleges make money, sure...if they should pay tax..that's an interesting debate but students aren't professionals..they are studying to become professionals. Any athlete can bypass college and tryout for the minor leagues and get a check..that's the students choice...not the school's fault

I think they had been giving him free stuff for a while, and Winston knew he was better off taking a theft charge, than receiving punishment from the ncaa for getting some free food.

By destroying scholarship opportunities? You completely side stepped my point where only 20-30 universities could pay them. Most Universities athletic departments run in the red, and borrow from the general fund for sports. So who foots the bill to pay them?

So instead of thousands of potential scholarships, you now have hundreds of paid players, all the people who would have gotten paid anyways. So all those people in poverty you are trying to protect are actually the ones getting the shaft.

Also, once they are paid employees, they no longer fall under Title IX, so there goes Women's sports, and their opportunity to scholarships.

But hey, as long as Johnny Football can get money for his Autograph, that is what really matters!

Do you realize, that there is a difference between the ncaa, and colleges?

Yes, the NCAA is a governing body, but the college foot the bill for these scholarships.

Even if you get NCAA to chip in money, again, they become paid employees, not students, so there goes Women's sports and non-revenue producing sports. NCAA would become a sports league, they aren't going to dump money is sports that won't make money.
