So you can just amend non-guaranteed contracts whenever you feel like? Strange.

No. The player has to agree to it as well.
It was probably a change the date, or we'll cut you type scenario.

Stupid question...there a deadline date that teams have to renounce FAs by or is that a whenever thing?

It's a whenever thing. As long as the FA hasn't signed a new deal, and the team hasn't completed any transactions that would require release of the cap hold, the FA bird rights can be held indefinitely.

Reports of Spurs interest in Mike Conley is overblown according to new sources. Also, Duncan opted-in for 5.6 MIL. So he could still retire (and they get that money back) but if he plays he has to play for that amount which means SAN could have less to spend then previous estimates (because those estimates had him either retiring or taking a 1 year minimum deal). Basically there is NO way they can get Kevin Durant at MAX without trading half their team (Green, Mills, Diaw and Parker).

Why does Duncan still want to play? He had a lot of firsts in his career last year and not in good ways. He should go out now and be happy he's had a great career

Maybe he loves the game? His coach? His teammates?

I know we are not getting Al Horford but what shouldn't get overlooked is Atlanta will very likely want to do a complete rebuild if he goes (they've already offloaded Teague). If that happens then Millsap becomes available and a trade for Leonard, Plumlee and Cleveland's pick or Vonleh might become attractive. It's not a perfect deal but not sure they are getting better for a player who is 31 and makes $22M a year.

Then if we don't sign a big in free agency (probable) and 76ers express interest in Crabbe, we need to remember they have a dispensable center. They couldn't even get a top 8 pick for Noel or Okafor which means they are probably not as valued across the league as they might have thought, maybe they'd endorse the possibility of getting Crabbe + Vonleh/Cleveland's pick (whatever's left from Millsap deal) for Noel?

I would love to get Millsap. I don't think you can trade Leonard with other players, unless you sign him and wait until the trade restriction runs out.

Yep I think so. It'd probably be just before the start of season though? Isn't it strictly said that you cannot trade him with other resigned player though?

Yeah Millsap is pure perfection for our system.

I think he has to be traded by himself.

What if Atlanta goes after Howard and wants to keep Horford, but needs to get rid of Milsap to do it first. Maybe that becomes plan B for us.

He opted in, but may still retire, basically making that a severance bonus.

IF...we were going after Whiteside or Howard, the Alexander move seems more Dwight like than Hassan like.....unless you are trying to make 2 moves. You don't need an extra $800,000 to get Whiteside, you might to get Howard.
