I get the feeling this is what is implied/what would need to happen to do this.

If Dallas no longer wants him, I would be concerned. It has to be health. The guy is still young and has size and skill for his position.

Man... I was definitely on the Parsons bandwagon during the season.... and then he got hurt again. I don't like it. I don't like it one bit.

I get that concern yet they signed an obviously hampered Wesley Matthews for max money last year.

What if the move is to sign Parsons tonight so we can go into the meeting with Whiteside tomorrow morning with Parsons in tow?

The thing that's most intriguing isLillard being in attendance. I find it hard to believe that Parsons is our #1 target. I think he's the first piece of the bigger picture. At least I hope.

The Los Angeles Lakers will also be among the suitors for Parsons, league sources told ESPN.

The Mavericks, according to sources, remain interested in keeping Parsons if they aren't able to persuade Conley and/or Whiteside to come to Dallas. However, the Mavericks have made it clear to Parsons that they do not intend to offer a max contract to keep him. Both of his two seasons in Dallas ended prematurely because of surgeries on his right knee.

A max contract for Parsons with the Mavericks, who own his early Bird rights, would be worth $98.8 million over four years. Other teams can offer him $94.8 million over four years.

Parsons, 27, had hybrid microfracture surgery on his knee in spring of 2015, and the rehab from that operation lasted well into the 2015-16 season. The arthroscopic operation Parsons underwent this spring to address a torn meniscus in the knee wasn't nearly as serious as the previous surgery.

Sources say multiple renowned orthopedic specialists have given Parsons clearance to resume full basketball activities and expressed optimism that his knee would not prevent him from having a long, productive NBA career.

Parsons averaged 13.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 61 games last seasons, statistics skewed by a slow start as he dealt with strict minutes restrictions.

He had the best statistical stretch of his five-year career in the two months before his season ended, averaging 18.9 points, 5.9 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game while shooting 51.9 percent from the floor and 47.7 percent from 3-point range and proving he could thrive at power forward in addition to small forward.

I can't imagine anyone is going to max Parsons after two serious knee injuries

Theory 2: This is just Olshey's backup plan if he fails to get any of his top 18 choices.

Theory 3: Olshey is creating false competition to the players he really wants to sign, so they'll hurry up.

....Theory 147: Olshey really wants Parsons.

    Without any trades involved:
    * Blazers have $5.6M in CAP space
    - Renounce Henderson ($9.0M). $14.6M space
    - Renounce Kaman ($6.5M). $21.1M space
    - Renounce Roberts ($3.7M). $24.8M space
    - Cut Montero ($874,636). Add 12-man roster charge ($543,471). $25.1M space
    - Cut Alexander ($874,636). Add 12-man roster charge ($543,471). $25.4M space
    - Renounce Leonard ($7.6M). Add 12-man roster charge ($543,471). $32.6M space
    - Renounce Harkless ($7.2M). Add 12-man roster charge ($543,471). $39.3M space
    - Renounce Crabbe ($2.7M). Add 12-man roster charge ($543,471). $41.5M space

We could sign Whiteside for the max $22.0M. (That also removes one 12-man roster charge). We would then be able to offer Parsons $20.0M.

If Dallas of all teams is apparently wanting no part of Parsons getting a max deal, that should give everyone else around the league some pause.

Dallas after all is the team that gave Matthews a gazillion dollars after his achilles turned to jello. And Cuban seems perpetually open to acquiring broken down players (i.e. Rondo, Deron Williams).

This is going to take some serious cap maneuvering if the goal is to add Whiteside and Parsons, but those two guys (if healthy) would make us a contender.

Gosh that's steep. Lose Crabbe, lose Harkless, lose Meyers......

    Dame/??
    CJ/??
    Parsons/??
    Aminu/Davis/Vonleh
    Whiteside/Plumlee

That leaves a lot of question marks.

I would dump Plumlee for a draft pick before I would renounce Crabbe.

Keep Crabbe. Get Parsons to take 18-19m along with whiteside. Or just sign howard instead of HW and keep Harkless too. Trade Plumlee and Vonleh
