To be fair, Aldrich is from Minnesota. Maybe he took less to play for his hometown team. Can't blame him for that.
Could be. Also could be that he thinks the Wolves have a bright future and he wants to be a part of it. Either line of thinking is reasonable, but certainly not typical of a 27-year-old who's likely never going to be able to command a bigger contract than he can right now. I stand by my conclusion: he's not an alpha, and doesn't want to be a starting NBA center. If he did, he would have gone elsewhere.
To early in the FA period for a center to settle for less than half of what Mahinmi got and think that market value was settled.
At this point maybe we should just take on Koufus for nothing and match our FA, I know everyone wants this reunion...
Of course it's speculation. I never claimed otherwise. Who could he start for? Charlotte? Phoenix maybe? Not sure, but there's zero chance of him staring in Minnesota. If nowhere else, I'm sure he would start here, after we're done striking out on players using us as leverage to get better deals from the teams they actually want to play for. I don't expect you to agree with me, nor do I really care if you do. But I have reasons for the conclusion to which I came.
Aldrich is not better than either of our centers. Don't care what his advanced stats say. Too small of a sample. And how do you know he took less anyway?
Much like your unequivocal declaration that Aldrich isn't better than either of our centers, my belief that he took less than market value is just that: a belief, not a fact. However, my belief is actually supported by data, whereas yours is in spite of it. But that's fine; to each their own.
I wonder how true it was that Charlotte were offering their pick in draft if someone wanted to take Hawes and Lamb's contracts. As things stand they'd both be bargains at circa $5M - $6M a year and we really should have agreed to that. With their pick we'd have got Deyonta Davis or Caris LeVert. Hawes and Lamb are not perfect but for this money you're not getting anyone very good.
Good. Long overdue. That is one of the two positives I'm taking from this. The Spurs are fucked. They have no shot. Not even remotely enough talent on that roster. Kawhi/Aldridge isn't even one of the top three combos in the league at this point.
