Are we completely writing off Meyers as our CotF?

He had his best minutes at C last year (on defense anyway), and he did find his shot after his massive sump to start off the season. And based on the lack of interest for him as a RFA from other teams, it appears he will return to us.

He does bring a skill that we don't have from anyone else in our C rotation. His touch around the basket and FT line down is pretty good when he shoots from there. His lead feet and lack of mobility is a massive liability, but perhaps his offense can mitigate these deficiencies?

Do we have any hope for this guy? Can be become our longterm solution at CoTF?

You could start him at center but you'd need to start Davis with him.

Or a mobile PF who can switch and guard the P&R, and help at the rim off the ball.

    Sounds like Aminu?

We saw very few minutes of Aminu at PF with Leonard at C last year.

I like him on offense because of his ability to set nasty picks out at the 3 point line and still be a threat in the pick n pop game. I think it really opens things up for Dame and CJ, and there are numbers out there that they play better with him on the court.

On defense, not great. But I think you can mitigate that if you don't switch and keep him down low. He's not a great rebounder but he's not bad, and have him focus on boxing his man and and instruct your athletic 4 to crash the boards.

I am not believing in him anymore. Four years of hoping to see any kind of improvement... If he stays, fine. He seems to be a really nice person. But as a player I will need time to trust in him again. A lot of time.

I'm willing to give him another year. We are in no hurry to make the finals; might as well hold another audition.

I agree, I think the ideal is someone who can guard the perimeter (and help defense) like you said, but also is a nasty offensive rebounder. I actually think Larry Sanders would be just about perfect next to Meyers. A lot of teams look for offensive rebounding, help defense, and post defense in the same guy, but between the two we'd have it covered.

Meyers went to the Aldridge School of Tall People Who Tell Anyone Who Will Listen That They Don't Want To Play Center.

Man...... If people were hard on him before, imagine how hard people will be on him if he's making 16-17 million?

4.5 out of 10? Seems about right.

I am not a fan of Meyers Leonard.

Personally, I'd like to see the following starting lineup:
    Dame
    CJ
    ET
    Aminu
    Plums

It's not so much "we wrote him" off as "he wrote himself off."

At this point, with the changes other teams have made, I think we're firmly in developmental mode. I'd start Meyers and C and Vonleh at PF. It might be painful now, but it'll pay dividends in two years. But I don't even think it'll be that painful. Vonleh is a decent enough defender, and Meyers is a decent one/one defender when guarding Cs. Also, both have the ability to shoot from distance and both have soft touches around the basket.

I still have a ton of hope for Meyers, but even if he's already reached his ceiling he can still play a valuable role on pretty much any team in the league. But, if we force the issue and make him our starting C I think he still has the ability to develop into more than a "special teams" player. His feet are damn slow, but so were Sabas'. He can learn how to be a more effective defender despite his limitations - speed and athleticism can be trumped by intelligence.

And to the folk who think the C spot is dead: I think it looks like there's going to be a revival in the next few years. Yes, we've been in a dry-spell, but with KAT, Drummond, Gobert, Jordan, Whiteside, DMC, etc there is talent at the position and all it'll take is for one of those guys to find their way to a contender before there's another arms race for Cs.

He should be re-signed just in case some other team is foolish enough to take him in trade.

Check out both units we had with Frazier at PG, Harkless at PF and Leonard at Center.
Frazier is a Free Agent isn't he?

Part of the reason he's not getting a lot of attention, 1st you aren't seeing a lot of RFA's getting much attention yet. 2nd he's still injured, indications are till December IIRC.

If we resign him, which at this point we don't have many other options, he will continue to play stretch 4 under stotts
