So our only other alternative is to match and try to trade him later but who would want to trade for him with that big of a contract?

And do what with the money we save? Cap flexibility? In this market as u can see does nothing for us.

    Match that shit

Good for Crabbe, bad for us. If we let him go we really only have two guys who are real outside threats, CJ and Lillard. Seems to go against Stotts' system.

He's not worth it. I hope we don't match the offer.

Let him go. That contract nobody's going to want. Just move on to Harkless and Turner. Hopefully Pat can make a contribution off the bench.

Well, if we match then that means that there are at least 2 teams in the league who were willing to pay him that much. There could be more teams in that boat.

Nets will turn him into Joe Johnson, chucker extraordinaire.

I'm pretty sure teams do these kinds of S&T. The Bulls and Boozer, for example.

I would match. Can't let an asset walk out the door for nothing.

He's a capable starter and we can trade him after the restrictions fall off.

Just because the cap is about to go up next year too (and actually I heard it's going to be about 5 million less than originally projected) doesn't mean that you can just throw around funny money contracts and avoid it biting you in the ass down the line. AC is barely above replacement level by some metrics.

    Next man up.

correct. If, let's say yesterday, Nets went to Crabbe's agent and said "we'll offer 4/75M." Crabbe's agent goes to Olshey and says "BKN's giving us 4/75M". NO can say "wow, congratulations...lemme call BKN" and they could set up a S&T. We'd sign Ezeli, Turner and one of the other RFAs (so that we go over the cap) and then sign Crabbe to a 4/75M deal using Bird Rights, and immediately execute a non-simultaneous trade with BKN where they send us a protected top-55 pick in 2021 or something. We still are over the cap, but since we only sent 1 player, we can get a TPE for 100%+100k of his contract cap number. In this case 17.64M, used within 1 year.

BUT, since he signed an offer sheet (if the tweet is correct and he didn't just "agree to terms"), then he can't be S&T'd. He can be matched or let go. That's it.

When will he ever start for us? Not even at SF now with Turner. And he got All-Star money not starter money.

We were just talking how we are going to have to trade Plumlee because he is going to get a 12+ plus deal and we will be in luxury tax hell. This contract isn't going to be easy to deal. The Nets are the only team stupid enough to give him 19 MIL and possibly 21 MIL if he hits incentives. Teams won't be knocking in the door since Crabbe isn't going to get enough minutes to put up huge numbers.

If Roy, Oden and Aldridge all left for nothing we can certainly let Crabbe leave for nothing.

We already did. Turner. No he can't shoot the 3 like Crabbe but he does everything else better.

Ok but Turner is a starter. Our second unit right now has no proven shooters outside CJ.

But you have to think Olshey was ready for this to happen.

Question now is, what kind of offers is harkless and leonard getting. I can handle losing leonard but I feel like we need Crabbe and Hark

Get Ray Allen off the street for a couple million a year to take corner threes.

Harkless showed a lot of growth in that area as the season went on imo. But yes we probably pickup a guy who specializes in 3's.

Don't forget Project Pat though. I think he is about to lose that title. No joke.

I just don't understand the people saying let him walk. Ok and then what do we do with the money saved? This is Portland. As you can see nobody that's top tier signs here.

Cap flexibility? Oh come on. No all NBA level player or what have u is coming thru the doors for us with the "money we save"

Markets like us have to build teams like this and Crabbe is that type of player you add to the overall strength in numbers strategy
