Is Crabbe really a $17.6M cap hit to us right now (until we match or not)? I think he's still a $2.4M hold, FWIW.
I've decided to put the cap/tax sheet out on google docs. I think my formulas are pretty complete. Please let me know if there's anything that looks wrong. Holy crap! didn't know you could embed linked google docs!
http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q98 Incentive compensation is not counted when determining the remaining value of the contract -- just base compensation.
I assume we don't keep Plums. This figuring also doesn't consider trading Crabbe or other players to get under the LT. EDIT: adding that the LT is assessed on the salaries at the end of the season. This means the Blazers have this season and all of next to get under. The trade deadline is the last chance to make a trade to get under (trade deadline the season after this upcoming one).
I don't understand how by matching 18 a year for crabbe, people say our starting C making 2 million a year will have to go.
They're saying he'd have to go to get us under the tax next year. He'd have to go next year, not this
I agree with this, IMO the reason we got him at such a low price AND a team option for year two is likely his knees, playing him 20 min a night in a platoon system is likely the way to go and keepin Plums is insurance
This is utterly ridiculous. Even if we don't match Crabbe we have to go into the luxury tax for THAT team??? (This is without even considering Leonard) That team is not a title contender. The economics of the league means that rookie scale and max contract players are the most valuable. I can't see us keeping Plumlee beyond this year regardless of the Crabbe offer.
Geez, I don't know why you guys need a calculator and process all the digits you can find! 20M is far to much to pay Crabbe. Let the Russian make the dude wealthy.
