Man pulls gun at Don't Shoot PDX protesting US police shootings

A man pulled a gun near hundreds of people taking part in a Don't Shoot PDX protest Thursday evening and was later taken into custody by law enforcement officers in tactical gear.

It appeared one other man was detained, though it was unclear whether he was taken into custody or released.

The man who took out the gun, which he identified as a Glock, explained his actions to The Oregonian/OregonLive by saying he was surrounded by "anarchists" who were pushing him and telling him he needed to go.

The incident occurred as hundreds of people converged on downtown Portland Thursday night to express their outrage and dismay after two black men were killed in back-to-back police shootings in Minnesota and Louisiana.

One of good friends is from Ferguson. When all that was going down he went from family-orientated musician to gun toting near schizophrenic level paranoia. I'd stay up with him for him for hours online begging for him to leave the town. But at least he moved his wife and kids out of town. They literally burned down everything he'd grown up with. How long has it been now..... two years? We never talk about music. We never talk about family. He's not the same person I've known for over 15 years. I hope I never have to see what he did.

Damn this sucks. I have no idea who is to at fault, but it's certainly not the cops in this case. This is getting pretty ugly, I don't know where this leads our country.

I fear this is all going to lead up to a major race war.

I doubt it, it feels like it's going to lead up to martial law when ever there is a protest. RNC and DNC conventions security is gonna insane this year now. I won't be surprised to see tanks and the such.

This is an old quote dating back to the days of apartheid but it sure seems relevant at the moment....

"I have one great fear in my heart, that one day when they (the whites of South Africa) have turned to loving, they will find we (the blacks) are turned to hating."

Wonder what Obama will bring? I should think the days of protests are over. I suppose the Governors can do it on there own, but a National policy would be useful.

    Actually I expect nothing happen.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
There isn't going to be a "race war." There's simply going to be a continuing cycle of violence between the "police" and "protestors" (the scare quotes are because I don't consider the murderers on either side as true representatives of either group). Probably until there are serious police reforms allowing the rebuilding of trust. I recognize (as noted above) that there are murderers on both "sides" of this divide, but it's much easier to reform an organization than it is to prevent isolated members of the public who snap. Not to mention, law enforcement has the greater responsibility and standard to live up to, as the government's "enforcement" arm--when you're given legal sanction to use deadly force, that requires a lot of conscientiousness about not applying violence except when absolutely required, in my opinion.

So don't do anything to the 2nd Amendment but fuck the 1st Amendment?

    Makes sense.

I think what he is thinking are that the protests are just glorified violent mobs. Probably drawing on the California/Baltimore riots, and this.

It sure will be interesting to see what Obama claims this one is classified as, considering what he did with the shit in Orlando.

So protests for the 2nd Amendment and against abortion are okay but we're not going to allow black people to protest?

Again, that makes a lot of sense.
