Is it just me or is this album ridiculously underrated? Sure, it's not as good as Illmatic, but IMO it's easily his 2nd best album and has tons of classics. Maybe because it was his 2nd album and didn't quite live up to Illmatic is the reason it's so underrated, but it sort of bothers me that you never hear about it.Thoughts?
Oh my dude. Right when I clicked on this thread that is exactly what I thought as well. I absolutely love this album. The Message is one of my top ten favorite songs, and just all around this CD is kick ass.
I myself have always thought of this album as Nas' 2nd best album behind Illmatic. IMO it's definetly a classic and an incredible album. I don't see why iTunes doesn't have it.

This is mad underrated. I know alot of people that don't even know about it, believe it or not.Honestly, it's not too far from Illmatic. IMO
Lyrically the album dosen't live up to Illmatic, but it dosen't change the fact that It Was Written is still a fair good album.
It Was Written is sometimes underrated. It gets hidden behind Illmatic, because of the fact that it was his 2nd album. Eitherway, this one is still a classic, to me hes on a level that you can only describe as a more mature Nas, having learned and matured a bit from Illmatic and now making another album.
