So The HCP and The Mrs HCP have not been on a vacation, just the two of us since our honeymoon. She has joined me on some work trips to cool places, but that's just not the same. Wanting to surprise her over the NBA all star break this next February. Wondering if any of you mouth breathers have escaped your moms basement long enough to enjoy time in either of these locations? Talking about Bora Bora/Tahiti or Virgin Islands type of destinations. Wanting a more secluded beach than a resort atmosphere. A scooter and a hut with a hammock vs a huge all enclusive place. Anybody out there have any ideas or recommendations? Best sites to search?
I'd do Bora Bora or Tahiti. Stay on those huts with stilts. I'm a single sockfucker so I never get the chance to take a wifey out there though but if I did, I'd go there.
I've never been but a friend who has been pretty much everywhere says the Cook Islands are the place to go....
Yes, the Cook Islands are the place that HCP is asking for. French Polynesia is way more touristy. Also, way more expensive. Your buck goes a lot further in the Cooks. barfo
I'd go with Hawaii just because you can fly direct out of Portland. Anywhere else involves multiple flights and a lot longer in the air and waiting for connections. If you're going to be gone for 5 days, 2 of them will be just flying.
Better go Hawaii. They won't require a passport to let you back in. They wont deport you back to Mexico.
I really enjoyed St. Lucia, but if you're looking for NOT the all-inclusive thing, then probably not there.
@HCP I've been to Bora Bora in February and been to a lot of different places in the Caribbean. It really depends on what your budget it, that will help you determine a better fit (Bora Bora will cost you upwards of 10k even in a non-lux hotel all-in). I wouldn't go to the south pacific in February as it's probably going to rain about 50% of the time you are there. I would recommend Turks and Caicos/Anguilla/Aruba in February. I can get you more details about the SP if you are interested.
I know she enjoyed Saint Kitts when we were there on the last long road trip from last year. In all seriousness, that place is gorgeous. If you can afford it, Bora Bora is lovely as well. If you can afford it more, St Regis is the place to stay. I won a trip there several years ago. Would love to go back
I was in the Caribbean in January 2000, and the rain either looked like it was coming out of hoses or it was going sideways. By hoses, i mean the drops were huge and it looked like a billion streams of water.
