I'm a fanatic. I can't get enough Blazers. My time is limited in my life with all of my activities, but I try to indulge as much as I can on whatever I can, when it comes to the Blazers. I am on the road for aprox 2 hours a day in my daily commute and that is alot of time to soak in info/discussion of Blazers/local sports. I want to hear more about Ezeli. I want to know all about Turner. I want to hear 15 different people with 15 different viewpoints on how this team will work or wont work next year. Then I want to dissect all these views. Then I want to do it all over again. I'm sure there is at least one or two of you who can relate to this. I really love this place because I get my fill of opinions. Enough so that often my thoughts have already been captured and there is no need for me to comment, so I just like who I agree with and read the plethora of intelligent, fact-filled posts that so many members are generous enough to spend their time on. With the departure of Bunker and now Danforth from Rip City Radio, I have been forced to look deeper into the broadcast options for my commute. As much as I would sometimes become annoyed with the discussions of their personal lives and not focusing on Blazers 24/7, I became very comfortable with The Bunker/Danforth show in the mornings mainly because they came across as genuine fans of the team. Tuning in over last season, I really had come to look forward to that commute and their discussion of the previous nights' games, listening to them dissect it, sometimes bringing up points of view I hadn't thought of. I don't think they were homered out, but they were definitely positive fans. As many have already pointed out in another thread, unfortunately, Sheldon is not coming across as a homey. He isn't coming across as a local guy who has a vested personal interest in the team. He comes across as a corporate numbers chaser, with an ego the size of Everest and his only real concern for the Blazers is in regards to his career. I could easily be wrong, but on radio, all we can go by is how you sound. With that said, I think he has a great tonal quality about his voice and absolutely has a great radio voice... I just don't think he has a great Blazers voice. So my morning commute has gone to hell. Since Travis in the afternoons is focused more on College football than local sports now my afternoon commute sucks too. I've become increasingly annoyed with the lack of local/Blazers coverage/discussions on Rip City Radio. I have not explored for any length of time the other channels, because the few times I have, they seemed like national shows and I knew the focus wouldn't be on Oregon or the Blazers. What do you listen to and do you have any suggestions or know of other stations that might provide more in depth and consistent coverage of the Blazers and Portland/Oregon sports? I mean I'd MUCH rather hear Travis talking about the Hops or the Timbers over USC football.... I would think between Oregon, Oregon State, The Blazers, Hops and Timbers, We should be able to fill a station with local media. And if not, why not regional and toss in the Mariners and Seahawks and (ugh) Huskies football? That would definitely fill up a radio station for content. No? I personally would love to tune into an all regional or statewide sports radio station. Edit: I missed one poll option. Mods are you able to add..."I live out of state and range of Oregon Radio."
In my last career we listened to sports talk radio 1520am from 8am-5pm m-f....... For about 9 years I did that. I'm never in my car anymore, so that might be the main reason I don't listen anymore, the other, it's hard to find someone I can respect their opinion enough to listen to. Nothing worse than trying to listen about the nba, and the douchebags don't know what the hell they are talking about and are actually cocky about it.
Sports talk radio in general sucks a major hoagie, especially the national stuff. Apparently the world thinks that the NFL should get about 50% of the attention, NCAA football 30%, MLB 15%, with the NBA getting a mention here and there. Or so it seems. Whatever, the numbers don't work for me. I'd rather listen to Lars Larsen while having a root canal than hear one more stupid opinion/comment about football at any level....and that's saying something.
Considering i'm pretty sure that to edit a poll takes more work than a ban, which is typically $50, I'm thinking Im getting a NO type of steal! But I will one up ya. How about I take you to a game next season in exchange for one year of unlimited edits? Course knowing me... that might STILL be a great deal for me!
It's funny. I like when sports talk shows talk about ancillary things or about life and all that. I get REALLY bored REALLY fast with sports talk... So I prefer them to talk about non-sportsy stuff. It's why I like Issac and Suke so much... they are sports guys but don't take sports too seriously.
I can get that and eve nthough it would annoy me when Danforth and Bunker did it, I am also sure it is in part, what endeared me to them and felt one as a fan. With them providing info about thier regular lives and seeing they are different but still fairly average guys that seem to be genuine fans like me, i am sure it all tied together. I just want all Blazers all the time dammit!!!
I literally never listen to sports radio. I don't watch ESPN or any of the shows on Comcast and I rarely read articles about the Blazers. I watch the games, I talk to my friends about the team, and I come here and bullshit with you neanderthals.
I only listened to Sports radio when I was in the car... I never listen to it at home, or anywhere else. More important things to be doing. Like giving reach-arounds.
When a radio host goes and talks about something other than Blazers/Sports think of it as if the are in the OT Forum, like we have here for a little while. You go into the OT Forum every now and then right?
Nope. lol. I see the comparison though. I have gone in there a few times and quickly realized I could spend more time in there than I do in here, and I just dont have that kinda time, so I avoid it. Its like, I love the game fallout. My brother wants me to play it with him online and I refuse. That's the next step for me in being glued to the tv 24/7 sweating over some fantasy character in a game. Setting up specific times to play so you can meet up with your buddies.. etc. Don't get me wrong. I totally want to do those things, including keep up on the OT, but then I would never get anything else done and I don't put enough time into my music as it is. lol
I would listen to 750 more but as soon as a commercial comes on that Canzano is the voice talent for I switch stations.
