ZB is a restricted free agent next year. So if he has a bomb year they are looking at Arb rights and 5+mil a year K

So.....If he has a bomb year and puts up 65 points he will make what Brass makes and is still 6 years younger and Brass has never put up more than 60 points BTW (and I like Brass a lot)

Just saying they aren't saving money on the deal. Knowing this team they'll trade ZB

You have to give to get. I love Brass but I don't see how you knock the trade especially given their ages. For as good as Brass has been he is 29 and has 2 years where he got more than 47 points and has never gotten more than 60 points. Let's not make him out to be something he is not. I think production wise the players are very similar except Zib is 6 years younger + they got a 2nd rounder.

He's one of the guys you hate to lose but the upsides are he can kill penalties, is a shorthanded threat, like you said 6 years younger with upside and a 2nd rounder included... Idk, I'd like to see the right players traded off this team...

You're not getting it. Zibanejad basically had as many points as Brass did last year but is right handed (something we really lack/need), is younger by a lot, bigger, and next year saves us a couple mil. To put the cherry on top, we got a 2nd rounder out of it.

If he goes and plays out of his rear end next year, then he'd already be better than Brass and cost the same, while still being 6yrs younger and more upward potential.

Wow..keep the youth movement coming, who cares if we end with a top 12 pick this year, they need to turn over for a year or two to start a new trajectory. Nice that they got a 2nd with it. That essentially ends the Stepan trade poss.

I always liked Brassard but this was a good move in many ways. They're selling high with Brassard after his best season, they're getting a younger and bigger player along with a second round draft pick and they get some nice cap relief as well. It sucks to lose a quality and well liked player but these are the tough moves that sometimes have to be made.

They may have also liked that Lindberg and Fast are Swedish and played with him in juniors.

Hate to see him go but it makes sense from what was stated above and that ZB is an exceptional penalty killer

Not much to not like about this deal. Gorton has started his remaking of the rangers

Why did not they include Nash and get a bigger package out of this? That would have been something and made gorton a contender for the GM of the year in 2016/17 season.

I have a lot of respect for Brassard. However, I can't argue with this deal. If Gorton can swing that Nash for Girgensons deal, he will finally be showing something. Girgensons is a guy I think will blossom in a bigger role. Heard that ZB is a big time PK guy as well. They have really upgraded the forwards at the PK spot.

I get the sense that Jooris might be here for one year. I can see them getting Girgensons and then going Stepan, ZB and Girgensons down the middle with Lindberg eventually centering the 4th line which would be insane.

Either way, a lot depends on getting the Nash for Girgensons deal done. That would open up a world of possibilities. I really don't see Hayes fitting in here unless he can play wing. He sucks at center and can't win a faceoff if his life depended on it. It's always the deals you don't hear about that usually happen.

I know Zibanejad played for U17 and U20 Sweden teams at Worlds but neither Fast nor Lindberg were on roster...just curious
