This is not a thread to bash the other candidates (although I'm sure someone will do so). Just wondered, since strong feelings have been expressed, is anyone actually a campaign volunteer for your candidate? I am. Tuesday is phone bank night. Right now we are signing up more volunteers, after Labor Day will switch to calling voters in swing states. Phone banking is not fun; it's tedious and after 2 hours all the little numbers dance before my eyes. But studies have shown that while the committed will vote regardless, the kinda following, lean, sorta like voters are much more likely to turn out when a person, not robocall, contacts them once, twice, three times. So I do it. Also staff tables. Some people are traveling to swing states but I am unable to.
You have my curiosity piqued. I wonder, does your phone bank night involve calls all over the country, or just to prospective voters in California? I ask because (as you noted) the committed will vote regardless, and California seems like it would be pretty solidly Clinton even without a single campaign dollar (or hour) being spent there.
I'm pretty much lacking in the candidate department right now. I may vote for Johnson, but I'm not thrilled by the prospect.
There are very few things on Earth I hate more than being called by someone trying to sell me anything. Not a vacuum cleaner, insurance or a candidate.
I need one of these. Might make me less angry when they ignore the no soliciting sign. I just scream at them now, maybe this way I'd be calmer and try to get my money.
The best way to deal with this annoyance is to waste their time. I like feigning interest, then put them on hold and check back every now and then just to make sure they are still there, while offering more interest just to put them back on hold. I make it a game to see how long I can keep it going.
I did that with a bill collection agency once. I posted it here somewhere. The good thing about having cell phones is I don't have a home phone now and I just put my cell on quiet when I get home. They don't bother me as much as they used to.
I don't volunteer, but I know that Denny likes to show the kids in his neighborhood his Johnson. barfo
Right now we are phone banking locally to get volunteers. We will later be calling swing states, Western states due to time zone. Basically the swing map is divided up among "blue" states for calling. Usually if someone does not want to talk to us they say so and we say thank you for your time and hang up. We also learn to judge when someone is bs'ing us but honestly that's rare, either a person is interested or not. Usually not interested don't want to spend their time.
