John McCarthy has introduced several suggestions for them to consider today. - Changing the definition of a grounded opponent to one who has both palms/fists/a knee/both knees touching the mat. One finger/hand would no longer constitute being grounded. - A foul will be called if a fighter advances with outstretched fingers (which leads to eye pokes). Fighters would be instructed to close their hands or point their fingers towards the sky and not towards their opponents head. Right now officials can't give point deductions for outstretched fingers. - Allowing heel kicks to the kidneys from guard. - Grabbing the clavicle (collar bone). - Increasing the number of 10-8 and 10-7 scored rounds by clarifying the criteria (damage, dominance, and duration being the three categories, at least two must be ticked for a 10-8; a 10-7 coming from overwhelming criteria). I'd personally love to see more 10-10 rounds but judges feel inclined to have winners. - Standardizing clothing for female MMA fighters. The individual state athletic commissions are not obligated to adopt the rule changes. http://www.mmafighting.com/2016/7/2...mma-judging-criteria-including-change-in-10-8
All of the suggestions were approved except for in New Jersey. With New York approved this is the last thing they want to do.
Women will no longer be allowed to fight in tank tops or loose t-shirts. They must now wear sports bras or rash guards. Important stuff.
http://www.mmafighting.com/2016/8/2...-changes-to-mma-scoring-criteria-new-rules-in More information here. The explanation of scoring is quite long. I hope it makes a difference. Other changes, via the article: Grounded fighter A grounded fighter is defined as: Any part of the body, other than a single hand and feet touching the fighting area floor. To be grounded, both hands and feet, palm/fist down, and/or any other body part must be touching the fighting area floor. At this time, kicks or knees to the head will not be allowed. Extended fingers In the standing position, a fighter that moves their arm(s) toward their opponent with an open hand, fingers pointing at the opponent's face/eyes, will be a foul. Referees are to prevent this dangerous behavior by communicating clearly to fighters. Fighters are directed to close their fists or point their fingers straight in the air when reaching toward their opponent. Female clothing Female competitors must wear a short-sleeved (above the elbow) or sleeveless form-fitting rash guard and/or sports bra. No loose-fitting tops are allowed. Female competitors will follow the same requirements for bottom coverings as the male competitors, minus the requirement for groin protection. The changes also remove two fouls from the MMA Unified Rules: heel strikes to the kidneys and the grabbing of the clavicle.
Lame! I want to see tittays pop out! I LOVE the finger poke rule change. Somewhere, Jon Jones is crying and calling his crack dealer.
