He has looked good since returning after missing a month with a knee injury. There's rumors he could be called up as soon as Arod frees up the roster spot. 90/340 .265 17hrs 60RBIs 43BB 94K .358OBP .474SLG .831OPS Since coming back from injury he's 7/21 .333 1 hr 6 RBIs
With ARod gone I hope we see some Jeter sightings. That is who needs to be around the kids, DJ and the rest of the Core4.
I'm looking forward to Saturday...and years of Prospectivitis, aka panning for gold, hopefully not iron pyrite....
And happy to read this also..... When the Yankees spoke to the Nationals about Aroldis Chapman and Andrew Miller, two of those they inquired about were well-regarded prospects Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez. Washington made both off limits. Each already has had a major league cameo, and the Nats believe they could be helpful the rest of this season and certainly in the near future. So that Clint Frazier (the key player obtained from Cleveland for Miller) homered off Giolito on Saturday and Aaron Judge hit a 450-ish-foot grand slam Sunday off Lopez made Yankees officials feel good. Because in the minors, the stats could deceive somewhat, so teams want to see how the best players do against one another.
Good- Judge must be plugged into RF as soon as possible to get him underway. With Sanchez, Bird and Judge Yanks already had/have an impressive sizeable chunk of good young players/prospects who were slated for the 2017 team- that's 33% of the team on the field and this was before the 2016 deadline acquisitions. No doubt Yanks are going to be running quite a few kids out there and of course they have to produce. Also very real possibility not all will, but that's an expected chance which goes with this territory and the key is having depth leaving more choices and alternatives. If most of this crop can at least come close to what is expected, Yanks will be in good shape if only because they won't need to spend "much" an any potential veteran alternatives.
One kinda sure way the young Yankee team can compete for this division much sooner than expected is with PITCHING. And of course the inability to produce top young SP remains the Yanks' biggest problem and weakness. Severino's development could be a difference maker for this organization going forward. He is someone to keep an eye on the rest of this season. Yanks have another kid at AAA, Dietrich Enns. Alot can happen between now and the end of 2017 ST but all things equal, I would be surprised if the Yanks don't give him every opportunity to win a spot in the rotation. His minor league numbers AAA-AA are banging on the door. Total: 20GS, 116.2 IP, 12-4, ERA 1.70, WHIP 1.17 ...allowed just 4 HRS. AAA: 8GS, 46.2 IP, 5-2, ERA 1.35, WHIP 1.11 allowed 1 HR.
