John Saunders, one of the familiar on-air faces of ESPN for nearly 30 years, has died. He was 61. http://www.espn.com/espn/story/_/id...iar-air-face-espn-nearly-30-years-died-age-61
The video at the link is tough to watch. The followup video, too. Stephen A. bawling like a baby. He was clearly loved by those around him. RIP
He was working for ESPN for almost a decade before the Raptors joined the NBA. He was establishing himself in the American market which was his goal as a sports presenter. He was offered a gig doing play-by-play for the Raptors for the local broadcast (not the national broadcast and not for much money). He surprised a lot of people by accepting and calling Raps games for about six years while still working for ESPN. He did it because he wanted to give back.
Thought he was the best voiceover guy in sports broadcasting. You could always tell it was him. I will really miss his presence on ESPN. I don't really watch it though for various reasons.
