he's the most unassuming looking killer in the league. i dont mind him, but between him and that little french woman tony parker, they done wrote the dictionary on flopping. take that out of his career, and he's hands down been one of the best bench players ever imo. he can come in, take over, and seal a game before the other team knows it.
I think the parts about the culture of Argentina's "Golden Generation", and Ginobili's big influence on the Spurs culture; are a big indication as to why the 76ers wanted Ginobili.
Watched their double OT game vs Brazil. Easily the best game I've seen since Game 7. Manu looked like he still had some stuff. Argentina's PG looks like he's NBA caliber. It's just interesting seeing this dynamic of some of these guys in this tournament. They'd be so miscast or awful in the NBA, but put them in Fiba competition, and they're huge stars. Teodosic is a great example-- dude has so much swag, but stick him in the NBA, and he's sitting there running mindless P&Rs all day and his creativity is gone. Feel like this applies to Manu in a way in which he broke out of that dynamic of standing in the corner to a guy who actually used his skills. Rudy never got there with Sarge for us, but he always looked fake tough unlike Manu.
Ginobli to me is old news...I watched a lot of Spurs games last season and he looked pretty bad..world competition suits him....one of the greatest world competition players is actually Luis Scola...even Nene looked like an allstar in the Olympics. Joel Freeland was a beast in FIBA competition. I don't think Manu was the greatest 6 man ever, but he's up there...his flopping takes him down a notch...Iggy is the best 6 man in the game these days
I'll give him credit. He is a killer and a very smart player. So many time I'd see him drive down the middle with that Shammgod crossover move. But he's a flopper and I still hate the fucking Spurs.
First, I think Manu does the "Eurostep". Second, it bugs me that they call it the "Shammgod". Wasn't Dejan Bodiroga doing that long before Shammgod?
On the first point, I'm just going by whom every announcer and former player rightly ot wrongly gives credit to for that move. Maybe it's the Eurostep.... Hell maybe it's the Dubstep! On the second point, I don't give a flying fuck. I just enjoy the game the game from a half interested layman's perspective. There are amoeba on further uncharted galaxies with a better undrstanding of basketball than me.
I'm rooting for Manu and his team win tomorrow. Team USA's players are just so unlikable and I hate Coach K. And the chaos that would ensue if they don't even get a chance to medal would be amazing drama. ARG was the last team to knockout Team USA in an international tournament. Could be an awesome swan song for the golden generation if they do it again.
