http://www.dancarlin.com/common-sense-home-landing-page/ I'm only about 10 minutes in, but so far it's good stuff about the current state of our political system.
Are his older historical ones any good? The WW2 Eastern Front and Roman ones look interesting. I'm waiting for the current one about Persia to get done to listen to it.
Hardcore History? They're awesome. I started listening to his current events podcast long after I stumbled on to his history podcast. EDIT: misread your post. Yeah the older history podcasts are great. My favorite is the one about the Mongols. Also his Persian history is done now. He did a 5 hour 2-for-1 kind of deal.
Hardcore history is amazing! maybe the best podcasts I've ever heard. My favorite of the ones on the Mongoles. Loved the WWI series too. They take a lot of time, and often take a circuitous route to start, but they are most definitely worth it. I haven't missed one in 3 years.
The last episode just went online, so there ya go. Both Ghosts of the Ostfront and Fall of the Roman Republic are amazing.
I noticed the newest was 5 hours(!). Those two are worth the couple of bucks he's charging for then? I hate to hijack the topic, but are there any other interesting history podcasts? Some guy is currently reading the Romance of the Three Kingdoms and talking about them, that one might be interesting when he's done.
Absolutely 100% worth money! I listened to both twice and every time they're mentioned I want to listen to them again. Fall of the Roman Republic is very much worth listening to this election cycle, too. There are interesting parallels.
Hardcore History is amazing. Dan Carlin usually reads 20+ books for prep on his larger podcast series, so they are thoroughly interesting and well crafted. Other history pods? Well, "History on Fire" is a relatively new one which seems decent, but it really doesn't measure up to HH.
Really enjoy the podcast...great link. I heard the first segment...great take. It's good to hear a podcast from one guy without the distraction of conversation..bright guy
I've listened to the Mongol and latest WW1 series', mainly as sleep aids to help me fall asleep, lol. I should probably listen to them while I'm not sleepy.
Are you saying Donald Trump is going to overthrow the republic like Julius Caesar, or Hillary with her supposed health problems since Caesar had epilepsy?
I would say instead that our republic feels like it may be dangerously close to being co-opted by authoritarian or autocratic impulses much like Rome was in the 1st century CE. Trump and Hillary could be more like a symptom than a cause (I see just as much threat to liberty and a healthy, functioning republic from the so-called "Regressive Left" as I do Alt-Right white nationalism -- and the politicians that pander to these groups).
I still prefer to think he meant Trump was going to declare himself dictator for life and be stabbed by Chris Christie and Mike Pence.
