They already had ethnic studies classes as an elective people had to choose from. I almost minored in it and thought the classes were quite interesting. Easiest classes ever.

I'm waiting for the White Man Reform class. You get to stand up in front of everyone and they yell at you about how privileged and bigoted and sexist you are, and then tell you that your opinion doesn't matter because you're a straight white man. If you try to defend yourself, the timer resets and you start over.

Just some peronal observations, that's all. Yes, college if its managed the right way, can be a good thing. But having come from a family filled of three generation of educators dedicated to higher learning, I have seen an epoch in the nature and value of it. I think teens nowadays should think outside the box. Gain hard skills anyway you can. Trade school, apprenticship, two year degree in a growing but unfamiliar industry. I like the phrase, "think outside the box." Since so few college graduates immediately in the field they've chosen, I think diversification is key as well.

I am not sure how biased this source is in its description of the curriculum, but I have requirements for licensing to take equal justice continuing education. Regardless of your political beliefs, I can't see how this requirement is a bad thing. College is all about being introspective as to what you believe and why, your hopes and dreams for your future, and learning about other people's experiences. But, um okay, just use your SJW acronym and ridicule people who want to foster an environment that allows you to learn about other people's experiences, because I am sure that will totally solve some problem.

Bingo! You hit it right on the head. In today's world a four year college degree is highly overrated. As you stated, gain hard skills anyway you can, even if it's at a series of shit jobs for a period of time. If nothing else you'll gain skills that are good around the house. And community colleges are far and away the best educational bang for the buck out there. If nothing else, get a transferable two year degree and then finish up your bachelors. That goes a long way towards keeping the costs down. Most companies don't care where you went for the first two years (if they even bother to check). They only see a four year degree. And community colleges are full of two year programs in wide variety of professions, most of which are seriously hurting for good employees right now because too many kids coming out of high school are either too lazy and arrogant to "lower" themselves, or are too brainwashed about the actual value of a four year degree.....Baby Boomers are retiring in droves and plenty of good jobs are out there. It's all about keeping expectations realistic and attainable......

Says someone who went to college and postgraduate school. If you don't think people should learn things and have new experiences when they go to college, then I don't know what to tell you.

I went to college as well, and in a bastion of liberal beliefs, introspective thought as to what you believe and why, your hopes and dreams for your future, and learning about other people's experiences.

The truth is that everyone just assumes that there are no differing opinions, because how could anyone NOT be a Democrat? I saw a lot of circle-jerks and very little discussion. These kids don't want to hear different opinions or open their minds. They want their "safe space" where they can bash on those uneducated, hateful Republicans.

It got to the point where I wouldn't open my mouth because these people are extremely emotional about their beliefs.

You're supposed to be taught how to think critically in college, and it seems like they aren't being taught that anymore.

Critical thinking leads to logic, logic leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering, suffering leads to being a patriarchal shitlord.

College is very valuable if used correctly...a lot of kids work those shit jobs just to get through it. It's not necessary...it's like music...you can join the orchestra and play 3rd clarinet badly or you can become the next John Williams....don't buy an expensive guitar if you're not going to play it. Don't go into debt for college if you have no clue what you want to do in life

This is a big reason why I have yet to go back to school in a long time. I don't wanna waste time and resources on something I'm not 100% sure what I'm getting myself into. I've really been thinking about a trade though, like HVAC.

Unfortunately that's not how we're raised.

When you finish high school, you go to college. Everyone goes to college. You're a loser if you don't go to college. We were told we needed to go to college to get a good job. Unfortunately most of these kids have no clue what they want to do, or how to figure out what they might enjoy doing. I admit, I have a decent chunk of debt from college. I dicked around and wasted time taking classes that were interesting, but served no purpose. But that should be totally okay. We should be able to go to college to expand our minds and learn things that might not necessarily to the real world, because it's those classes that shape who we are as a person. If you only learn things that are relevant to your desired profession, that's a fairly narrow scope of education.

I'm the same way, plus with how crazy it seems to be on most campuses these days I'd be like Nate and have to keep my mouth shut, although it isn't that bad in a more conservative place like this. I haven't seen any crazy shit from the local colleges at least.

My son graduated with a full academic scholarship but now that he's working is thinking of taking different courses to give him an edge in the market...graduate school is 200k and he'd really rather start his own business than take on that debt...his degree has helped him compete so far and live where he wants to so, without his degree he wouldn't have the job he's got now...it was required
