Two military jets just scrambled out of PDX. They must have been traveling just under the sound barrier, because by the time their sound hit my location, they were out of sight and over the horizon. Normally I can see the military jets not long after they take off on training flights, and follow them for quit a while. From the sound I believe they were F15s, heading NW.

Anyone hear any news reports of a problem?

Good to have those bad boys are on our side.

They make training flights almost everyday out of PDX, sometimes more than once a day. I believe the airport has scheduled times the runways are set aside only for their training flights.

From the time of day (not one of the scheduled time slots), and extra loud noise they made taking off, this was not a training flight.

I know, right? In the Saudi desert between the beginning of the air war and the beginning of the ground war, news of 100% air superiority took some time to filter down to us. I still find the sound of fighters on patrol extremely soothing.

I agree. I live really close to Tyndall airforce base and see training flights daily right over my house. They NEVER fly fast. Maybe there could be some kind of tactical "war games" type of exercise?
