Why? My 2 cousins (really like brothers) have 9 tours between them. One is on his 5th tour in Afghanistan. The other did 3 tours in Iraq and is on his 4th tour now in Kuwait.

I have another cousin who is a CO at Inverness and another who is a Black policeman in Pendleton (let that one sink in)....

Words like Whitesplain and Mansplain are use to dismiss people based on their gender or their color. What if someone actually has valuable opinions and information, but they happen to be white? Is that whitesplaining?

And their opinions would be fully informed, but your second-hand perspective certainly wouldn't constitute "visiting it or really knowing the situation intimately", or "having all the info".

Whitesplain/mansplain (and variations like goysplain, straightsplain, cissplain et al) do not mean people should not have opinions.

A good example of mansplain is male state legislators writing scripts that doctors have to read to pregnant women. Because they know more about pregnancy than women or their doctors. Whitesplain is Bill O'Reilly lecturing the African-American community on how they should behave. A man who grew up in a legislated all-white community and was shocked that Black people behaved politely in a restaurant.

__ splain means a person who has not lived an experience telling a member of a marginalized group who has lived the experience what they REALLY feel or need. The assumption that someone who has not lived our experience still knows better than we do and can lecture us on it. Not only can lecture us but feels obligated and entitled to do so.

I guess Maris will call this another racist and sexist insult. Not sure how my original post was racist and sexist but I guess just saying I'm a woman is enough.

P.S. dviss by all means let's try to do a Blazers game; I'm unlikely to be in Portland but do you ever visit the Bay?

You're right I shouldn't have been so dismissive. What I can say is every one of those black athletes has had their N moment. John Henson most recently. So My bad I was a bit triggered by your athletes get treated well statement.

We made the word up. This is NOT the definition. I defined it above. Did you read it?

It reminds me of the depression PSA's telling everybody how insulting it is to tell someone with clinical depression to just "snap out of it". Or people who haven't done a tour of military duty instructing returning vets how they should handle their PTSD. Or people who've never procreated opining to me on how I should be raising my child.

I'm sure any of us can come up with a comparable example of a situation where someone without relevant experience has tried to tell us how to do something, so we should all be able to comprehend how insulting it can feel.

Turns out he was spot on with his assessment.

Nothing racist in his comments that I see.

Reid is still a POS corrupt traitor to our country.

Is there a scenario where a white person can offer useful information to the black community without having it labeled as "whitesplaining?" Or would that person be dismissed because any white person trying to provide information to the black community is "whitesplaining?"

To suggest that a white person is going to have information useful to the black community that members of that very community wouldn't already have available to them is kind of condescending in and of itself, don't you think?

There are literally people who go to school to become community developers and urban planners. We study things like cultural geography and social engineering. To think that it's impossible for any white person to develop a new idea or theory is very short sighted.

We have anthropologists who study civilizations from thousands of years ago with languages that don't exist anymore. How do those people write books and establish strong opinions on the cultures of those societies without having the ability to ever visit them or experience them? To tell someone that they can never understand because they're white is absurd, and to think that there won't be any new or useful ideas is rather bleak, don't you think?

Yeah, it is. Actually it's worse. The n-word is an actual word whose definition had nothing to do with race. The hate terms mansplain and whitesplain are solely creations by hate groups to attack and ridicule the people they hate.
You can lies-splain all you want, but we've all seen enough hate rants by the poster to know the terms are used hatefully.

And you apparently have no link because there are none.

"I don't need anything whitesplained to me"

"I don't need some cracker telling me anything"

What is the difference? The difference is minor at best. PC basically.

Seems similar to how people use the word thug in place of the n word. I know some people set their alarm clocks ahead to trick themselves into getting up early. That doesn't fool me, I know how far ahead I set it.

I don't have to wait for but a few posts from you to have link-worthy cases in point.

You asked, you don't like the answer. It is what it is.

My sister's best friend is white. She grew up on 8th and Ainsworth. She can speak to me about race and race issues all she wants. So no. It doesn't mean what you say.
