A Muslim Woman Was Just Set On Fire In The Middle Of NYC

A Muslim woman wearing traditional clothing was attacked in a possible hate crime over the weekend in New York City’s Midtown neighborhood.

While standing outside of a boutique shop on Fifth Avenue, the 36-year-old woman, who remains unnamed as of this writing, had her blouse set on fire by an unknown assailant at approximately 9 PM on Saturday night, according to the New York Daily News. There was no verbal confrontation prior to the assault, and the woman’s attacker escaped before the victim could attempt to identify him or her.

“[The attack is] symptomatic of the overall rise in Islamophobic sentiment in our society,” said Ibrahim Hooper, of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), stressing the importance of a complete investigation. “That’s based on the spike across the country in hate crimes and hate incidents, in recent days and over the past year,” he said.

The attack is currently being investigated by the NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force, though the incident hasn’t yet been officially designated as a hate crime. This marks the second time in a week that a Muslim was attacked in New York in a potential hate crime. Last Thursday night, Albanian Emirjeta Xhelili attacked two Muslim women in Brooklyn, punching them and attempting to rip off their hijabs. Xhelili’s Facebook posts revealed her as not only anti-Muslim, but as a Donald Trump supporter.

Over the weekend, the Florida mosque that Orlando nightclub shooter Omar Mateen attended was destroyed in a fire that is being investigated as arson. Hate crimes targeting Muslims have risen significantly since Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. AS US Uncut reported late last year, nearly 20 anti-Muslim hate crimes rocked the country in less than a week.

I like to blame "people," because I find that "people" are shitty in general. Some of those "people" are Christians, some are Muslims, some are white, some are black, some are gay, some are straight, and some of them are alien robots with orange skin who were sent here to destroy the world. So I find it much easier to just hate everyone equally.
