White couple now charged with hunting down, killing black teen because of race

I don't agree with the concept of a "hate crime". Intent shouldn't be a separate crime, it should weigh in on the original criminal acts.

 

What about terrorism? That's just intent.

Wait, they picked a black kid to start a fight with at 7/11 and then decided to run him over and kill him just because he was black?

And the woman is also a murderer because she said "get him"?

If they flew planes into the WTC just to kill themselves and not to attack this country would that be better? Long term maybe, but to the people involved not any better.

We have people on the no fly list, thousands of them. If they just intend for us to die why haven't they all been arrested?

 

So, they should be charged with murder if they lived, but if it is bad public policy to criminalize intent/motive then it would be a bad idea to punish them more or increase the charges because of their purpose to intimidate, etc... Just pointing out the double standard of saying don't criminalize intent/motive but increase punishment for terrorists.

Right, so you can't commit domestic terrorism unless you have ALREADY violated a law but ALSO have the intent to intimidate, etc. No different than the way a hate crime or penalty enhancement works.

 

How's it different? One guy hates black people and is motivated to commit violence against a black person because he hates black people. He is motivated to create fear in black people for his own political purposes. Result: Hate Crime. Another guy hates America and is motivated to commit violence against Americans because he hates America and wants Americans to live in fear for his own political purposes. Result: Domestic Terrorism violation of the US Patriot Act. Both are crimes motivated by prejudice. Both are treated the same. Both are in fact... the same.

 

He was not motivated to create fear or terror.

Where did you get that from? He did it because he hated black people and probably got kicks out of doing it. Probably saw the black person as some kind of animal and was hunting for sport.

 

They were both charged with 1st and 2nd degree intimidation, which incidentally is how "domestic terrorism" is defined too.

 

The intimidation charge stems from when they chased the guy. They aren't intimidating society at large.

 

So I totally get that this guy is a murderer piece of human garbage.... but I'm curious what evidence they have that he was a racist murderer piece of human garbage?
