<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Flopping is already illegal in international play. Now, it might become illegal in the NBA, as well. The NBA is studying how often flopping occurs and whether officials can tell the difference between flops and actual fouls, Stu Jackson, the NBA's executive vice president for basketball operations, told Bloomberg News in a story published Thursday."They're really difficult to determine in real time. They're meant to fool an official," Jackson said. "Are we going to be wrong more times than not? It's tough, but we're looking at it."Jackson said the NBA is considering whether to allow its officials to impose technical fouls for flopping, which FIBA, the governing body of international basketball, allows its referees to do. Other sports, such as hockey and soccer, also allow referees to penalize players who flop."We have so many more plays than you do in a football or soccer game and in a more intimate environment," he said.Jackson didn't give a timetable for the league to make a decision.</div>I hope this happens, though knowing the lousy refs in the NBA it'll cause more controversy
I like the idea behind the rule, but as there is with everything you know the referees will still be biased and give favorable calls to the superstars (especially Wade and LeBron).
Flops wouldn't be called right now if the refs could notice it anyway. The good floppers will still be able to fool the officials so it really doesn't matter.
It's very, very hard to impose this kind of rule. When you're on the court, with everything going on at the amazing speed it goes on, it's extremely hard to judge the difference between a flop and an actual foul. I sort of like the idea behind it, but it's extremely difficult to judge.
Refs are going to F*ck up this rule so badly, they're gonna think a legit foul is a flop and all hell will break loose, if the refs were better I'd support this all the way.
Its probably hard to judge a flop while on the court. To know a flop I think it needs some kind of review on a monitor. Cause fans at home can notice it quite easily. But for being a ref eye level with everyone elce it might be hard to tell, also with 10 players on the court. I think it would be good to get some rules on flops. But it would be hard to get a good set of rules on them. Alot of training for refs also. Also the whole bias statement twords refs and big stars
Personally, I think something needs to be done about that little pansy foul where the shooter fakes, gets the defender in the air, and jumps into him. That's about the stupidest foul ever.

It's not a foul if the shooter jumps into the defender in the air... if the shooter goes straight up, however, then it's a foul. So... as a defender, jump straight up in the air, don't jump towards the shooter.

I hate this call as well.... I'm not really supportive of them putting this rule in because knowing these officials they won't be able to judge a flop accurately. I can see it now, officials blowing games because they think someone is flopping. BTW would this be considered as a regular tech like arguing with the refs causing you to be ejected?
Theres nothing you can do about flopping some guys are really good at it, and you can't even tell their flopping. Seems like everyone in the NBA is weaker than a midget when they get touched by another player. I hate it, but what can you do?
