He made millions in the NBA. Now Darius Miles is bankrupt.

Former East St. Louis Flyers basketball standout Darius Miles was a first-round draft pick with the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2000 NBA draft with a contract worth $9 million. He starred in a movie with Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds. He landed an endorsement with Michael Jordan’s athletic brand.

His star was rising and his financial future looked secure.

    In June, he filed bankruptcy.

Miles is 34 now. It’s been 16 years since the 6-foot-9 forward was drafted by the L.A. Clippers right out of East St. Louis High School.

But injuries, legal problems and bad investments have left Miles asking the court to allow him to sell off his assets to pay creditors. Miles listed $460,385 in assets and $1.57 million in liabilities.

Here is an example of a fucked up law.

Allowing an epic douche like Miles that has made millions and pissed it away to get bailed out is wrong.

Oh, and fuck Darius Miles. (and Raymond Felton)

$50,000 of customization to ruin the car's resale value? Yeah, I'd say that's something of a dumbshit move.

This is my favorite Darius Miles interview ever! I have no idea what he's saying but it's pure gold.

Miles was a really nice guy. His mom was the driving force behind him playing ball. He never loved it. He played because of the money. That doesn't make him a douche. That doesn't make him an asshole. I bet most of us have done a job that we didn't really enjoy for the money. He was a good dude. No reason to hate him.

His stats look fine. Despite many games missed due to injury, his career PER was 14.

I just remember a childish guy who should have gone to college, with a strong black accent, so the Oregonian moved their hatred to Miles, as the newspaper got rid of every Blazer player with such an accent one after the other in a race from elite to the bottom of the league. McMillan later made something out of the childish Outlaw, so he could have done so with the more talented Miles, but injuries stopped that. Without injuries, and with the 5 years we gave other nice kids like Outlaw, Webster, and now Vonleh, Miles would have progressed like them.

I think you should blame whoever gave him the big contract, not him, as well as the overriding negative environment created by the Oregonian. In the disappointment after Bob Whitsitt left, fans needed to blame the team's downward spiral on something, and the Oregonian was happy to oblige until the paper found a GM who would play ball with them, Pritchard.

Exactly. His flaw was that he was too nice. Had he been more macho, the racists would have liked him.
