When the PA says to rise for the national anthem, I rise and stay quiet, then clap at the end. Like most people. Typically the team stands in a line on the court during the national anthem, that's unity too. Why not just do that if their only concern was to show unity? They can also show unity before tipoff, throughout the game, really whenever they want to. I also don't believe I ever said they didn't appreciate your list, just that their action seems disrespectful to me. Deal with it.
People not liking is kinda the point. But the conversations shouldn't be about the action, they should be about the statement. That's the whole problem, the media has steered the entire conversation into "who is protesting?!" Instead of "why are they protesting?".
I do the same...it's not difficult to do and I'll take my shoes off before entering a Japanese household for pretty much the same reason..to me the whole bonding thing with the team is just a group hug of sorts...not a protest at all. I think there are better ways to protest than entertainment venues.
Clapping or cheering after the anthem is disrespectful. But I guess it's okay since it's what everyone else is doing. But doing something different, even if it's a strong, positive message, well that's just wrong isn't it? For fucks sake. You're telling me to deal with it? You're the one complaining because there not falling in line with society and what everyone else does. They do something different and people like you get offended, think they're disrespectful and say shit like "Why don't they just stand for the flag like everyone else and appreciate it?" If anything, they appreciate it by what they're doing, and using the anthem to send a message. Many people could robotically stand there and look at the flag but that doesn't mean they appreciate or respect it. But if that's more acceptable to you then so be it.
This is bullshit. How about showing some "unity" with the people in the stands who pay your salary and don't have a problem with the national anthem?
The people in the stands don't pay their salary. The Blazers pay their salary. Are you one of those guys who walk into a store like you own the place because you "pay their salary?"
Yeah, it's a slap in the face to every Blazer fan who loves this country and what it stands for. Totally disrespectful and totally self-centered behaviour by a bunch of millionaires who don't know how lucky they are.
Well at least they stand together as a unity of races as opposed to one race just kneeling or sitting down and excluding the other races just to ignorantly show what the BLM movement is about. It's about all of us. Doesn't matter what color. Fuck the race wars all these clowns try to provoke. Huddle up in unity. I am with it. We all need to help each other. End of story
If there are no fans in the stands, and no fans buying Blazer merchandise, there are no Blazer salaries.
I don't care for these type of "protests" because they don't really do anything at the end of the day but if you are gonna do it, do what the Blazers are doing. Some people find it disrespectful and I get that because some people were brought up that you MUST stand for the anthem. I also know a lot of soldiers who do the same and I get it but freedom of speech, it is what it is. I don't think the Blazers here are protesting. It's a message of "hey look, we need each other no matter the race so this is our way of showing that".
