Good thing this BLAZERS RELATED TOPIC got moved to the OFF TOPIC forum so that nobody can see the contentious discussion about THE BLAZERS.

Just wait, not standing for the national anthem will become a thing when Hillary stole the election from Trump!"
The thread has gone off topic. Now we're discussing black on black crime and MarAzul's family.

I think the Blazers should continue to huddle during the national anthem.

    There.

It's back on topic. Put it back.

Gotta whitewash the main forum so we don't upset our Blazers overlords!

Because, obviously, the posters on this forum have seen soooooooooooo many advantages to being "The Official Forum of the Portland Trail Blazers."

Those black people went to prison for killing other black people. Cops get away Scott free for killing us on camera. Why you STILL don't get this as an apples to oranges comparison is only because it doesn't fit your agenda.

In response to number 2, it's because they're to busy rioting over trivial things like a pumpkin festival.

Yes. As the flag projects onto the court the are Wells Fargo logos on every corner. This is far more disrespectful than exercising a right that the flag is supposed to stand for. One thing it doesn't stand for is fascism. Corporate entities controlling government. The very definition of fascism.

Sure sometimes the cops get off. Guess what it happens when the kill white people too. So stuff that bullshit. But I see you don't have a real retort to the REAL epidemic facing your people. That is what BLM should focus on.

    Uh huh.....

Not really, but I know better than to even attempt to have a discussion with that mindset of "love it or gtfo" so I'll just take my leave with you here

    US Flag code
    · The flag should never be used for any advertising purpose…. Advertising signs should not be attached to the staff or halyard.

The US flag code is no longer enforced. This is a direct result of a US Supreme court decision with another part of the same flag code concerning the burning of the flag. The Supreme Court decision states banning the burning of the flag conflicts with the first amendment right of freedom of speech.

I do not agree with the Supreme Court decision.
I also do not agree with the Blazers adding advertising to the flag, it is poor judgment, and offensive.

Personally, I would never do business with Wells Fargo. I tried WF 40 years ago for a year or so. I did not like them then, and like them less today. The local credit unions are a much better banking option.

I agree that burning the flag should be legal. Try saying something bad about your country of you're in Russia or South Korea. It's protected expression that should be afforded to citizens but NOT corporations.

So you think it is OK for any individual to wipe their ass with the flag, but not OK for a corporation to put its logo on the flag?

I disagree; everyone should be treated as equals. Maybe you have heard of that concept?

So you're actually equating me simply stating it's disrespectful, to a group of zealots who want to censor art & entertainment... Good grief.

Who said we need to ban all forms of protest, or even ban this form of protest? All I said was it's disrespectful. You can choose to be disrespectful if that's your thing. I don't really care what you do, but I'm entitled to an opinion, and Scalma is entitled to call me an idiot for it.

The fact that anyone could think it's not disrespectful, intentional or not, when professional athletes organize a united protest against the flag & national anthem, is to me mind-boggling.

There are many foreign players and almost to a man they still stand with their teammates during the national anthem. Why? Are they patriotic, or just respectful?

I'd be totally fine if they stopped the anthem before sports all together, like they do in other parts of the world. But if they're going to do it, it's really not that hard to stand there silently for two minutes and check out that hot chick two rows down. You don't need to kneel, you don't need to yell protests, you don't need to turn your back, just stand there. Soon it'll be over. You haven't become radicalized, nobody turned you into a mindless, narrow-minded patriotic drone. You're going to be okay.

Race inequality didn't change for the better or worse due to your body positioning during the anthem. And for those who say well at least we're talking about it - They'd been talking about each and every white-officer-kills-black-man story 24/7 long before Mr. Kaepernick wanted to draw attention to himself. People are taking about it because we've seen the video, heard the audio, seen it on the news day in and day out. Not because a few athletes have decided to huddle up and look at the floor during the anthem.

How about you don't tell me what I can or can't say to others. Don't tell me to not give my opinion.

Second, again, nobody is forcing you to do anything. Hopefully that has penetrated your brain since it keeps being repeated to you. I can only dream.

I've never served, but I think equating having a military background to having a narrow view is bullshit. Pretty sure a guy who's been stationed around the world, or witnessed true atrocities first hand, or did a few tours in Afghanistan, has a much wider and well-informed view of the world than some white hipster from Portland who's never left the Northwest. Yet tomorrow they'll go write another blog or Facebook expose on why some aspect of the U.S. is bad. 'Why can't we all just get along, man?' Well fuck, I don't know, maybe go experience the rest of the world, particularly the Southern hemisphere and middle east. Take a day trip to North Korea while you're at. You might find your answer there. Who knows, you may even start to appreciate the United States, as completely imperfect as it is.

I think what's most important though, is that while these celebrities are stunting for publicity, that others are eventually able to make substantive change when it comes to race inequalities.
