And it wasn't just last night - Mason ALWAYS uses that to introduce Aminu.

Name means "The Chief has Arrived", but his nickname is simply "Chief". Barrett always simply called him "Chief". I can see why someone would say that Calabro calling him "The Chief" smacks of unfamiliarity.

It's not that big a deal, but can't you at least try to see the other guy's perspective?

MB called him Chief, not The Chief. There's a difference. The players call him Chief, the coaches call him Chief, Calabro calls him The Chief.

Should we tweet him and tell him his mistake?

How about we tweet @farouq1 and ask him which he prefers, "Chief" or "The Chief"?

Is this "hip" line coming from Chris McGowan, or Dewayne Hankins? You guys must work for one. Look around at the game. Few ticket-buyers are under 25. You must be either from Southern California, where old women wear teenager hairdos, ESPN, Comcast, or the Oregonian. I better take that back. A quadruple is too much.

Ticket buyers aren't watching the TV broadcast. Young poor people are.

Bullshit! Poor old hippies are! Give Rice a token job on the show.

He should follow Schonley around the arena, cracking wise.

Actually, giving the Mikes Talking Ball would be nice.

Not as much as the youngins for advertisers.

I got home from the game last night and watched the DVR of it; it was definitely weird not to hear Mike and Mike, but I think I mostly just miss Mike Rice, even if mispronouncing names and being hungry for nachos or cheesesteaks or whatever is not "professional." However, Calabro is fantastic, and I even had a couple of laughs at Hurd, with "Moe Harkless, Mo Problems!" and calling CJ a nine-piece nugget. He's already better than Tone, but I think it will be easier for them as the season goes on to build some chemistry. Not complaining about the refs on every play was a win for this announce team.

Which is weird, because old farts have jobs and money. Go figure. I guess the youngins are more susceptible to impulse buying and do not have established brand loyalties like old timers, and that makes them more of a target for advertisers

And in all reality, if Rice wanted to stick around, he really needed to stop crapping on the "Deal of the Game". Seemed like every time he was letting us know that he didn't think it was much of a deal. Of course he was right, but I'm sure the bosses didn't like that.

That is exactly correct. Youngsters are dumb and impressionable and easily influenced by slick advertising. You old farts are stubborn and grumpy misers who would rather eat dinner at 3:15 if it'll save you a buck.

Nice to be right in the middle. :ghoti:

Exactly. Old folks are pretty set in their ways. Young ones are more likely to try something new. Once you get to be my age, you know what works and what doesn't, what you like and what you don't. We had our experimental days, too and those of us that lived through it see no reason to repeat past mistakes for the sake of "change".

By all means, let's wait for 1000 more games of boring playcalling before we compare them to Mike and Mike...

Boring play calling is your opinion. I enjoyed it, and it's only going to get better.
