Glass, Gerbe, Nieves, Hellberg down to Hartford. Glass and Gerbe need to clear waivers. That leaves 24 on the roster, including Lindberg who will get LTIR'd. So the 23 are 13 F, 8 D, 2G F: Pavel Buchnevich, Jesper Fast, Michael Grabner, Kevin Hayes, Josh Jooris, Chris Kreider, Oscar Lindberg, J.T. Miller, Rick Nash, Brandon Pirri, Derek Stepan, Jimmy Vesey, Mika Zibanejad, Mats Zuccarello D: Adam Clendening, Dan Girardi, Nick Holden, Kevin Klein, Ryan McDonagh, Dylan McIlrath, Brady Skjei, Marc Staal G: Henrik Lundqvist, Antti Raanta I think Pirri will be rotating in with Vesey and Buchnevich as they each adjust to the NHL. Pirri wasn't brought in to be a 4th liner. Pumped we kept Jooris. That kid can play. He will be a great fourth line C. I love the idea of Grabner-Jooris-Fast 4th line. Surprised we kept 8D. I hope Skjei gets some good ice time. He's waiver exempt so he may end up going down at some point to get some minutes. I think this was clearly the best roster. Not one cut I disagree with or one guy I cant believe made the team. Good job front office and AV.
My guess at opening night lines (my GUESS, not what I'd do): Kreider-Zibanejad-Buchnevich Miller-Stepan-Zuccarello Vesey-Hayes-Nash Grabner-Jooris-Fast Pirri (rotating with Buch and V) McDonagh-Klein Staal-Clendening Holden-Girardi McIlrath, Skjei Would rather see McIlrath in for G, and Miller switched with Nash. Either way, this is a good squad.
You mean no more Glass bashing? Aw............Thank you God! I really believe the Rangers have turned a new page. Don't laugh.....I think Glass will work out better in Hartford where he can help the younger players be team players.
Absolutely what I would have done. I think Staal and Girardi are on very, very, very, very, short leashes.
Pirri isn't rotating with anybody. He is one of the few asswipes on the forward core that knows you have to shoot to score. There isn't a shot in hell Clendening is starting over McIlrath or Girardi starting over McIlrath. Girardi is just about finished. I expect him to be in the minors after 2 weeks. I also think if Buchnevich and Vesey start off well, there is a significant chance Zucc gets dealt. I would not rule out a Zucc and Skjei deal for Trouba if the Rangers believe in Graves enough. I would. I like Skjei a lot but Trouba has the chance to be a righty, star defenseman.
That's a B+ offense with a D+ defense on paper. I'm excited by Clendenings showing on the pp and hopefully Skjei can develop. Lots of 5-4 games on the horizon. I think G and McIlrath end up the spares most of the time and Fast once Lindberg returns. I would deal Skjei, 1st and Fast as the core of a Trouba deal. Maybe a 2nd or prospect added.
Your McIlrath hatred is laughable at this point 71. Clendening sucks ass defensively. His only value is on the PP. Now maybe they can teach him defense like they did Stralman. However, he sure the heck isn't improving the defense from a defensive standpoint.
Clendening is much more valuable than McIlrath at this stage. We need a pp qb and general puck mover since Yandle is gone and McDonagh is really the only other option and is just average at it. Sure they could use some physical elements on D but McIlrath isn't good enough all-around to be used that much imo. Maybe he could beat out Girardi. For what Clendening is making we may be getting a real bargain going forward.
You're on crack. The forwards on this team look good. The defense covering people looks like crap again. Yandle sucked ass defensively and look what happened to the team. Ideally, McIlrath plays top 4 minutes and Clendening is the 6th defenseman getting 14 minutes a night. I would play him the full 2 minutes on every PP and little at even strength.
No more excuses for Staal and Girardi, they are the weakest links and I would have no problem if they were odd men out. Whatever Yandle contributed offensively was offset by his team leading giveaways and zero effort to make a physical play. I agree about Fast being on the bench when Lindberg comes back too, Jesper needs to start putting the puck in the net. Boyle's absence immediately improves this defensive unit over last year's. Hopefully we've seen the last of Glass.
People need to stop with the Fast hatred. Teams would love a 30 point role player who is wonderful defensively and is good on the PK unit. His job is not to put pucks in the net. The big key is Nash getting dealt. Period. He doesn't fit here. If Nash gets dealt the lines should be Kreider-Zibanejad-Buchnevich Miller-Stepan-Pirri Vesey-Hayes-Zuccarello Grabner-Lindberg-Fast Jooris McDonagh-Klein Staal- Skjei McIlrath - Clendening/Holden Ultimately, I think Lindberg will be a really valuable player. So when Nash is dealt and I believe he will during the season, I keep Jooris as the extra which might be very key. Hayes is lazy and can't win faceoffs and the two rookies are bound to have slumps. Not to mention injuries. I think half way thru the year Nash's value goes way up because he will only have 1 year on his contract left plus half this years salary.
No hate on Fast, he's a good player but he needs to shoot the puck more - 75 SOG in 79 games last year with 10 goals. Lot of new pieces this year who look promising so we'll see how Jesper fits in. No Glass on the roster is the most encouraging move AV has made. Zuccarello is the only player under 6' on the roster. I think AV knows he needs to produce. Drop the cap anchors in the press box but work Dan/Marc in every 3-4 games.
Steve Zipay ✔@stevezipay Another PP for your speculation: Zuke, McIlrath at points, Nash in front, Vesey and Step11:43 AM - 10 Oct 2016 Wouldn't mind seeing this at all but would have to see AV using dylan and his cannon from the point in a game besides practice to believe it.
Good get Prod. Not shocked at all with this news but just confirms in my mind that AV is lost taking someone like girardi who is broken down, can't skate, can't defend and once the puck is in his end it doesn't come out until a goal is scored for the opposition. If AV really thought watching girardi in the preseason that he should be one of the 6 over dylan gorton needs to be fire AV immediately. They are totally fucking this kid around and my fear now is they trade dylan as if they put the kid on waivers it would probably set a league record for teams putting in claims for him. Then after they trade him gorton has a what the fuck did I do moment and fires AV but it too late cause well get to watch for the next 10 years Dylan beating the living shit out of our forwards. If they do meet Dylan should tell AV to go fuck himself and demand a trade. I think I read somewhere that if he doesn't play a certain amount of games this season he becomes a free agent at the end of the season. Really pissed with AV and his pet favorites.
It's really unfortunate. Never been more disillusioned with AV than I am right now. Im not saying McIlrath is the savior but he is so far and away better than Girardi at this point that it's hard to even attempt rationalize AV's decision. The Post is now saying McIlrath is being actively shopped. Great job there, absolutely suffocate the kid's value and confidence, then try to trade him when he's at his lowest.
Yep, the 10th pick overall you spend 6 years developing and now that he's shown he's ready to kick ass lets give him away to some team for a 3rd round pick. Stupendous use of assets. Wheres the vomit button when you need it.
