I guess so. I could have sworn it was Wheels that relieved Schonely. I guess I am wrong about that? Goes to show you that the human brain likes to remember things in the most positive light!
It is nice having a color commentator who actually knows what is going on during the game. I like Barrett, but getting Calabro make it worth the change. Just cause you have an all-star Power Forward doesn't mean you won't take Durant or Lebron if you can.
You're not wrong either. It went Schonz -> Eddie -> Schonz -> Wheels. Eddie was SO BAD they brought back Schonley for two or three more years. But he hated the 2000's team so much, it was evident in the broadcasts.
I'm glad someone else remembers this. Schonley was moved to TV broadcasts in the early 2000s and replaced with Doucette, and it bombed so hard that they swapped them.
My parents listened to the radio broadcasts back then, because BlazerCable was still a thing and expensive. My dad had the best critique of Eddie: "With Bill, I knew what was going on out there. He talked basketball. With Eddie, I've got politicians on the court, circus bears, god knows what else out there, but there isn't any basketball!"
WHAT!!?? Schonz wasn't on TV in the 2000s. You actually got to geeks to LIKE this misinformation as well.
Mike Barrett doesn't hold a CANDLE to Calabro. Just stop. You're USED to Barrett that's all. He's not better.
I always disliked M&M few years ago I was calling for their jobs in some posts on this forum. Simply because they gave their personal opinion so much and this. "oh my tooth" was more annoying than funny. Not to mention even if the replay was clear the refs got the call right. Rice would rarely admit to it. Which to me, and everyone else I watched the game with found extremely annoying. More often than not for the past two years I watched games without volume on due to M&M. The new team I was excited about, then the first pre-season game happened and they sounded like Eor from Winnie the Pooh. However the second preseason game I found to be much better. Colobro had more excitement in his voice and wasn't as monotone. If they keep improving during the season. I might end up watching more games with the volume on this year... Than I have in two years. Not sold on Hurd though. I don't need to an announcer to "teach me basketball" like he has been trying to. "Two guard front?" -.- diaf it's obvious and half the time when you mention it. They play they just ran isn't a "two guard front". so stfu about it.
Denny still owes me money for my old thread ideas, but here are some new thread ideas to fill the board next summer, when we're again bored out of our skulls because Olshey doesn't deliver. 1. How much homerism do we want from announcers? How much talk about ref calls? 2. How much East-Coast harsh sound? 3. How fast do we want them to talk? (Do we want to get stoned during the game, or have to concentrate on every word as if there will be a test.) 4. Do we want a former NBA player as colorman to provide expertise? 5. Should the colorman be funny, or some earnest junior building his resumé? 6. Should the play-by-play man describe every play (radio style) or be more minimalist (TV style)? 7. Which areas should they not be from (e.g. Seattle, Laker territory, Lake Oswego)?
I like them, just want Calabro to be a little more homerish and for them to work on not overtalking, which they have a problem with every now and then. Hurd got better that 2nd game. He's a fun dude.
