...while it's true that I am pulling for the Cubs, I'm also still opposed to the best of 5 first round playoff format...I think all series should be a best of 7.
Round of 7 LDS makes sense with a single WC play in game. If they expand WC then it would have to stay at 5.
Go Cubs. Remember 1908? It is safe to say any Cubs' fan alive in 1908 has been shut out their whole life. No baseball fan should not witness their team winning a World Series. GO CUBS!
...I recall that awhile back me and someone else were discussing the format...instead of making the regular and post season any longer than it is, I'd like to see them bring back scheduled double headers again...maybe 4 a year all against each team's divisional opponents...that would free up 4 days from the schedule. They could then increase the W/C series to a best of 3 and the divisional series to a best of 7. ...and of course there are probably other scenarios that would also work.
...Bingo, bring back those Sunday doubleheader's, and 4 against Div. Opponents would be perfecto- I'd also like to see MLB go back to a 154 game schedule, while utilizing Monday's to travel more than Thursday's, to give the players a day off after a double-header.... like the year's of yore...!! I'd also like to see the season begin 2 weeks later, as the Northern cities freeze their asses off, and "snow outs" should never be a factor... just my 2 cents, and that will not buy you a tootsie roll....
Long time fans will remember those Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day Double Headers and todays well paid players should be only to happy to carry that out. And I'll agree to the 154 game schedule as well. A return to the two division format would be nice, second place is no place and should not be rewarded. Each team has the same number of chances to make first place. A team finishing first should play off only with another first place finisher
...I could live with a shorter schedule but you just know the owners would fight that tooth and nail...they want that extra revenue.
MLB's expansion(s) over decades, from the best of the NL vs AL days (pre-1969), has become a haven of commercialization of the game itself. Too much commercialization IMO. I loved the early 60's best of each League heads to the WS, like you mentioned Michael. 1969- I didn't mind the two division format at all, ie East vs West. Then we had the Braves, Houston, Reds, in the NL West,. In the AL West: KC, White Sox, Rangers, Twinkies in the AL West. No playoffs until we had two divisions, east, west. IMO, the WC I've never been fond of, yet it could grow on me, as much, I wouldn't mind seeing the top 2 teams in each league having a LCS with the 3rd team's Div., not even in the PS??? ; as much it would not bother me either, to see the best of the AL and NL, PERIOD, play in the Series, or maybe not, shit I could go either way. All I want to see is a shorter schedule in using optimal weather. These frozen games, are not for baseball, its football weather ie (early April, late Oct). Not conducive to working out muscles, with fear of tearing 'em, due to freezing weather. In other words, start the 3rd week of April, have plenty of double headers during the season. Let the World Series be finished by end of October. No snow outs-!
I miss those long traditional double-headers. Baseball, as like all sports, had become greedy. More teams=more money. The one game wild card game really does the fan no justice....... one and you're out or in. Too short to get excited. A three game playoff gives something for everybody. For owners get their money and the fans get their extra games. Everybody's happy!
The Dodgers or Nationals, whomever loses that series will be the butt of National League jokes for some time to come.
Cubs Win, Harry Caray where are you now....? Cubs Win, Cubs Win, (with a Budweiser drawl)....!!! Go Cubs- !!
Damn hard way to lose a game & series. Moore pitched a great 8 only to have the pen totally shit the bed. That San Fran Bullpen went from shinola to shit this season.
I hate to pull against Rags Pitching staffs, but .... damned, Fox Sports 1, reached an all time low, with both Pete Rose and A-Roid too. They stunk up the place with Rose last year, now add the Chemist- go fk yerselves FS1... somewhere, unbeknownst to his old friends, layeth a man in Queens, tied down to a whipping post; swearing at the baseball gods, if he's able to watch MLB, no more Giants even number magic....
