Not just talking about head-to-head (which favors Paul) or crunch-time (which favors Lillard), but overall. Paul is a better distributor, defender, ball-handler, and shoots a better percentage. Even last year, in Dame's best season, with Paul on the decline, the advanced stats were so clearly in Paul's favor it's not even funny.

CP can have all his advanced stats, when the game is on the line I know who I'm going with and that's all that matters tbh.

Taking into account their career arcs, how they are two different kinds of guard, and other aspects, I'd say that, at the end of this season we'll say, "they were equals."

All true and good points, but..... this is a classic case of "other things being equal" and they're not.

Lillard doesn't have TWO of the most athletic players in history to throw lobs to. Lillard has played for a crappier team, and thus has has way more responsibility that Paul. Also, you point out several important things that Paul is better than Lillard at. There are many things Lillard is better than Paul at, too, including leadership (which is pretty damn important).

Personally, I didn't vote because I don't think the answer is clear cut, but, you know.... F--- Chris Paul.

I know who I want at point guard at the end of a playoff game we really need to win, and it ain't a floppin crybaby that misses elbow jumpers and turns the ball over when it matters.

If we're talking about who's better right now. If you were picking a team, who would you choose to be your point guard. I take Dame and the decision is easy.

The only advanced stats relevant to a decision about who I would choose as my PG between Paul and Lillard are these:

    Age: Paul - 31, Lillard - 26

Number of menisci surgically removed: Paul - 1, Lillard - 0

But is that a real way to judge a players value? I've never been one to say because they have rings they are better than those who don't (See: Barkley,Stockton,Malone)

Shit, Adam Morrison won 5 times as many playoff series than BRoy! What does that mean.....nothing.

And you actually got a few chumps to LIKE this post?

Lillard is already better than Cliff Paul, it will only be a matter of time until he's better than Chris Paul.

But Darius Lillard isn't better than any of them (I've seen his sales numbers; he's completely feast or famine).

Tough call. Dame can take over a game offensively. I think Paul can take over a game defensively and setting up other players for easy buckets. BOTH very important attributes out on the court. Don't know why some on here just can't show a player their deserved respect just because they play on a team they hate.

Technically, not true. It is true Morrison won a ring with the Lakers in 2009-10, but he only played in the first series against OKC (2 games, 13 total minutes). He was on the inactive list for round 2, the WCF and the finals.

    Also, not mathematically true 5 x 0 = 0.

Regardless, that's not the point. Morrison wasn't the best player on his team. He was not expected to lead his team anywhere.

When you constantly fall short, the way the Clippers have, you tart to wonder if your best player simply does not have what it takes to lead the team to victory the big games. That's where CP3 falls short and the criticism of him not being as clutch as Lillard are valid. Lillard has accomplished as much in the post season, in a much shorter span of time, with a weaker supporting cast

I posted it in the Blake Griffin trade rumor thread, but think it bears repeating here:

During the LAC series, Reggie Miller kept going on and on about how CP3 is the best leader in the league. Well, he's been paired with Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan for five seasons and has not been able to lead them past the 2nd round a single time.

Over those five seasons, the Clippers have the third highest cumulative regular season winning percentage in the Western Conference, but not a single Conference Finals appearance to show for it. Every other team in the top six has made at least one trip to the Conference Finals. Best leader in the entire league? Certainly not when it matters the most.

Respect is earned, not given. CP3 hasn't earned my respect. He won't until he's either a Blazer or he retires.

I agree with this, but it's only relevant for this season. Chris Paul's still an amazing PG, but his best days are behind him. Dame's just coming into the peak of his career. I don't know if his peak will be quite as high as Paul's has been, but it's going to be much higher than anything Paul has left in his game.

So as of right now, does that make Dame the better player?

Where is this notion that CP isn't a good leader coming from?
