<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>The Boston Celtics are now the front runner to land Memphis center Pau Gasol. The Celtics are dangling talented young forward Al Jefferson and several draft picks.</div>~Denver Post~I don't know how I feel about this. We always talk about how we want a special player to help Paul and our young big guys but Al is proving he is amazingly talented. Thoughts...?
I don't know how I feel either. I mean yeah, it'd be amazing to get a dominant big man like Pau, especially in the East where the center position is fairly weak. At the same time, Jefferson has been playing so well, and showing so much promise that it makes you think for a second. Paul and Pau would be a pretty nice wing/big man combo though.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Paul and Pau would be a pretty nice wing/big man combo though.</div>agreed
No... NO. Do not trade Big Al. He is going to be an All-Star, he has been playing like one lately as well. Al Jefferson is 21 or 22 years old, and look what he's doing. Give him 2 years and look where he'll be at. There is no reason to trade him. I would, however, deal with giving up Gerald in a deal for Gasol. You all know how much a love Gerald, but I'd much rather give him up than Big Al. Then you are talking about trading picks too? Trading Big Al and this year's pick? I give that one a big hell no.
I don't like this at all...Big Al is playing INSANE...I'd rather let GG go at this point..even though I'd still be kind of hard to let GG go
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Then you are talking about trading picks too?</div>It's from the Denver Post, it's not like a trade rumor I made up.
I just wish this would've happened BEFORE al was averaging a double-double. jeez.but yes, ultimately I would do this. it could be impatience, it could be empathy for paul, but I would like to see another star in Boston to try a title run here. and how accurate is "front runner"? is it THE front runner or just a contender?
Don't trade ANY of our players at this point. We are playing hard out there and it seems like we can win with the players we have now, we just can't close out games. Getting Pau would help a lot, but you can't win with one guy. Just wait until we get Pierce and Wally back, then we should be playing much much better.

Sorry if you took it the wrong way. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>and how accurate is "front runner"? is it THE front runner or just a contender?</div> We'll never know until it happens. You can never really take internet rumors too seriously nowadays because there are so many. And the majority of them are either false, misconstrued, or made up by a writer who was just looking to get a story. So, we'll never truly know how accurate all of this is until something happens.
Yeah I think you guys would be better off keeping Al Jefferson...hes one of my fav players from Boston and will probably have the brightest future amongst the young Celtic players. About the pick, if the trade were to go down I highly doubt Boston would deal their first round pick for this season...if anything it would probably be a couple 2nd rounders of future first rounders with some kind of protection on it.

IF a deal for Gasol were to ever go down with Boston, and we were trading our 07 first rounder, it should be top 2 protected.

If the Celtics were in serious talks about aquiring Gasol I would rather see a player like Telfair, Green, Wally, or even Theo (expiring contract) going to Memphis and then you could also sweeten the deal with a couple of future picks or player rights, future considerations etc...whatever it takes to get Gasol. Telfair could be a nice asset for the Griz, they get some youth and Telfair still has alot of potential. Theo could fill in for Gasol for the time being but he would basically be involved in the trade for his expiring contract which would allow Memphis to rebuild if that is their plan....Anyways even though im a huge Raps fan I would rather see teams in the Atlantic get better then worse....we cant be the laughing stock of the NBA, we just cant!

But look at all our loses. We lost by 10 or less points. Think if we had Wally and Paul in that situation. We could of probably won 3-4 of thoes games.
The Celtics arent going to win a ring even if they do bring Pau to Boston...And Jefferson has been playing too damn well right now to just trade him away. When Boston played the Spurs about a week ago, he totally dominated Tim on the offensive end, and he even got a couple blocks on him as well. He has been playing out of his mind. He doesn't deserve to be traded.
If Ainge trades Al and this year's pick he's an absolute moron. The Celts do need to get rid of a few players as the roster is crowded for next season, but they could potentially land Oden or Durant in this draft. It makes no sense to trade a 22 year old future all-star PF and a potential franchis player in this year's draft for another all-star PF. Mortgaging the team's future at this point is ludicrous.

And even if we don't get Oden/Durant in this draft, I wouldn't exactly be mad with a frontcourt of Big Al and either Brendan Wright or Joakim Noah. But Big Al has been great this season, to trade him would be a major slap in the face to him personally and it would be an idiotic move for Ainge to make.

I mean I love AL J, but I'm sick of talking about how our team might be good in three years. Pau is a proven talented power forward who can produce on a nightly basis. Some celtics fans are just getting sick of this young player mentality. We've been doing it for three years now and where has it got us? I mean if we draft an Oden/Durant/Noah or whoever where will that get us? Sure, it might pan out but why not go with a sure thing? A lot of fans don't want Pierce to be traded but they don't want to trade any of our young guys. I want Pierce to stay here and be successful and for that to happen a lot young players will have to be moved at some point. If Ainge keeps going young before we know it Pierce's career will be over. That would be an absolute damn shame and I think a bigger slap in the face would be for Ainge to not get a big time player to help out Paul and continue taking trips to China to scout the next ZhiZhi Wang.
I doubt Memphis wants Gerald Green when they already have Rudy Gay. So my guess is this falls apart real fast.

I mean, I would much rather prefer to trade away green, but I would think they would want al. and honestly, we don't know if al can stay healthy his entire career. even this year, his best year, has been riddled by not only ankle injuries, but the freak appendix surgery and something else I can't remember (hamstring?).
