It's all in good fun to debate this like a political football until you're one of the poor saps like me who has to be covered through this disaster of a program and makes just more than the subsidy income line. We're one of the families that Bill Clinton said Obamacare's "the craziest thing in the world". Our payments this year for my wife and I are more than our mortgage. We've already been notified by Moda that our current plan will no longer be offered. If the new plan costs 22% more than last year's bloated mess, I'm going to have to make some tough choices. I've got one more year of this crap before we qualify for Medicare. I'm not sure how we're going to afford nearly $2,000 a month for shitty coverage.

But you can keep your doctor. Oh wait, they meant if you add your mortgage payment and your medical plan monthly payment you could afford the house next to him.

Ah, ok then. Here's my spin.

As far as I know, it is factual that Obamacare premiums are going up an average of 25%.

    Your move.

Obamacare has been great for those who couldn't afford to buy healthcare on their own or couldn't get it because of pre-existing conditions. That was its purpose as intended by the Democrats. Of course every social freebie has a cost. A lot of the cost was supposed to be paid by the young and healthy folks who were mandated to buy insurance. The bill's massive stupidity was that the penalty for not complying with the mandate to buy is a lot less than the cost of the insurance. Couple that with the fact that you really have a bit of built in insurance because if you get some nasty disease you can always sign up for coverage at the next open enrollment period and the result is fairly predictable: not enough money to make the system work resulting in losses for insurers, reduced numbers of companies willing to participate, and skyrocketing premiums. Those rising premiums are mainly hurting people like me who make a bit too much to qualify for subsidies.

This is all on the Democrats. They wrote the bill, refused to negotiate any of it with the Republicans, and rammed it through without a single Republican vote. It's a massive redistribution of wealth that is being paid for by a very small subset of the population. In my case, it's killing my retirement plans...which had already been severely damaged by the Great Recession. Oh well, my new motto is "retirement is for wimps." What choice do I have? Thanks, Obama.

Obama took $500B from medicare alone. I wonder how many insurance policies $500B would buy for those who can't afford it.

Gosh, it pays $2,000/month in premiums for over 20,000,000 people.

For a family of 4, it would to pay $8,000/month.

    Lefties do not understand economics.

Just received this email from Obamacare

    MARIS61,

Your current health plan won’t be available in the Health Insurance Marketplace for 2017, but you have other plans to choose from. You can explore your 2017 plan options now by visiting HealthCare.gov.

Remember: The Marketplace is the only place where you can qualify for financial help to lower your monthly premiums.

Starting November 1, you can return to HealthCare.gov, update your 2017 application and enroll in a new plan by December 15, 2016 so that you don’t have a gap in your coverage.

If you don’t choose a new plan by December 15, the Marketplace may match you with an alternate plan from a different company to help ensure you don’t have a gap in your coverage. The company may send you welcome information or a bill for the first month of coverage. You have no obligation to activate this new coverage.

I was very skeptical of this plan from the start. I had some liberal family members that were all excited about it when it was passed. We finally have our health care reform, and if a democrat wrote it, it must be good. Michael Moore's movie got universal health care pushed through! Golly gee willigers!

One of the central pillars is requiring everyone to be covered. Wow. So we have a problem with people not being able to afford health care...let's pass a law requiring them to buy it. I know their reasoning behind it, but I didn't think it would bring down prices. Especially given that you could get much cheaper disaster coverage beforehand, which is what young people really need. And insurance companies are simply moving the cost of their new requirements onto other consumers. It's a zero sum gain.

I think the bottom line, is that the only way to significantly reduce the cost of health care nationally is to cut out the middle man insurance companies. They take in billions in profit and don't provide an actual service.

Obamacare has been a Godsend for several people I know. My brother would not have insurance without it, and he's 60. I would not have been able to change providers for a better Dr. I needed.

But Denny and MarZul will be happy to hear me say that my team was totally wrong about the cost of the ACA. Mea Culpa.

Nope. Too late. Having Politicians screw around with what they do not understand is most often trouble. In this case, it was mathematically so predictable. Then there is the additional aggravation of having the government screw around with private business and mess around in business not authorized to the government in the Constitution, all combine to produce real mess that can never truly be corrected. The best we can hope for now is get a system that works again for many people. I will not get my healthcare returned, nor will millions of people that also lost theirs. But I do hope my grandsons will have a system that works when they begin their working years.
