I just saw Rick Adleman at Elmer's today in Beaverton and got to shake his hand. I was wondering what he's up to these days and found this article from last year. He says he's totally retired from basketball. It's a pretty interesting article where he talks about how life in the NBA changed, and how it got more annoying as you have to deal more with the media and player agents these days. He also talks about the Drexler era and how it was his favorite group to coach. I remember hoping the Blazers would bring him back some day. They fired him for Carlesimo, which was a terrible move, and we haven't had a coach as good as him till Stotts. http://portlandtribune.com/pt/12-sports/251712-120567-retirements-a-winning-game-for-rick-adelman-
The article also implies that Geof Petrie resigned because Paul fired Adleman. Then Petrie goes to Sacremento, hires adleman, and they build a title contending team.
Not surprised. Harry Glickman also left the organization due to Paul firing Adelman and to this day, isn't even allowed in practice. Thankfully, Paul has been generous to the fans the past few years. Otherwise, everything indicates that he seems to be quite moody. I can't help but wonder what his moves will be in 10 years when Lillard is done.
Great article. Adelman is one Blazers alumni I'd love to meet. I don't remember how many times I checked out his book from the library when I was a kid (and the Running Down A Dream VHS), but I could read it over and over. Guess I'd better eat at Elmer's more often!
I think he was so much better and open minded than that Dunleavy-Cheeks-McMillan mess we had during the early 2000's. I really wanted him in Portland back then.
