Right now, the defending champs are 6 games under .500, 9th in the East.Question is, will they return to one of the elite teams in the league? Or will they even make the playoffs?

They aren't done. They will make the playoffs, and anything can happen in the playoffs in the Eastern Conference. If they can put the first half of the season behind them and focus on nothing more than getting Shaq healthy and back into the swing of things, and winning games, they'll be fine and they will be a threat in the East come playoff time.

I dunno what to really say about Miami, I keep hearing once they are healthy they will be back. but now they are healthy and they get their asses kicked by the Knicks who are creeping up on them. they might think that they can turn it on the last quarter of the season, but thats risky. especially if someone like Toronto or even New York goes on a winning streak. If the Heat dont gain any ground and the Knicks or Raptors win 5 of 8 games in the last month of the season it would all but be over for the Heat.

The whole East is so ridiculous, of course the heat have a shot to be one of the best still. They just got Shaq back, and the 2nd half of the season is almost under way. After the All Star Break, I am sure the Heat will be playing much better basketball.

Hah. They're not done. There are enough more games left in the season. They'll play better eventually, and kill it in the playoffs.

As long as the Heat get in they have a shot at making the finals. The East is just sad right now. If they can play as well as they did last year anything is possible. They could easily go on a run and end up like the Knicks from 99 or the Rockets from 95.

They aren't done by any means. Any team with Dwayne Wade is dangerous. Secondly, if Shaq would stay out a little longer, would recover fully and be rested up. They only need him for like 15 games tops.

They are just about done and should be going into rebuilding mode after this season or maybe the following year. Shaq, Payton, Zo, Toine are part of the 8 man rotation and are at the egde of their careers. Keep Shaq because his presence on the court brings alot of confidence on the court. Wade is good player to build around. They have a nice young sf-sg in Dorrell Wright.

They have a solid young core with Wade, Wright, and Haslem. But they won't be making the NBA Finals for a while. In four (?) seasons, Shaq's contract will expire and they will have a ton of money for the off-season. They have a lot of talent, but it's old talent right now.

I really don't know. I think they'll make the playoffs, and from there anything can happen, but they need to play .700 ball from here on out to go .500

They can't be done yet I mean there is a lot of games left in the season and plus look how bad they are playing and they are still 9th in the eastern conference. All they have to do is get their team chemistry going again but that will be challenging since so many of their players have been missing games. But at the end of the year I expect to see the Heat in the playoffs as a number 6 or 7 seed.

I see the Heat making the playoffs, and I also seem them doing pretty well in the playoffs as well. The east is so damn weak this year that anything can happen. Once Shaq gets about 10 games under his belt, and other players can get healthy as well, this team will start to gel. Anytime you have a player like Wade on your team, you are never "done". I am just going to fail to believe that last years CONVINCING nba champs would be done that easily.

The only teams that really scare me in the east are the pistons and somewhat the bulls but even the bulls are beatable I mean they had one convincing win against us on opening night, then the second meeting wade went out the game with like 8 mins left in the 1st, and the Heat still almost won that game. Saturday was a close game as well.

I can imagine that a western team is going to win this year. But the Heat will still have a chance if they make the playoffs. A lot of players on their roster has lots of experience in the playoffs and they know how to play.

Then in the playoffs you'll see what experience does for you.

It took a fatigued Detroit team and a rigged finals series for the Heat to win it last year along with some luck. Miami will lose in 5 games to either Dallas or Phoenix this year if they get passed the Pistons.

If you're asking if they have a chance at winning the finals, no way.
